Can anyone tell me who wrote the song: Paths of Morning Glory? To help you recognise the song the words are as follows:

Just another knee-high boy who got caught up in the tide
Of a country's cold ambitions and a nation's empty pride,
Taken from the bosom of life's sweet expectancy,
I shouldered arms in innocence for man's insanity.

No playing fields of England, no pavements lined with gold,
No heroes' welcome anywhere, no tales of valour told,
The greenest grass, the luscious fields, no better time to live,
Already much to offer and so much more to give.

CHORUS: Will I see another day, catch a morning sunrise,
See my children play, watch them grow before my eyes?
What fate have you in store for me? The mud and bloody streams,
Paths of morning glory, and the drums of childhood dreams.

Midnight cold in No Man's Land, the air was still like death,
The welcome clink of harnesses, the joys of takin' breath,
Waiting for the dawn to break, sweet precious mystery,
Then march out in the mornin' sun, a part of history.

The whistle blows; “Come on, my boys; let's kiss the morning dew.”
Some marched, some walked, some prayed, some talked; fear was all they knew.
Machine guns' deadly music started all around
As wave on wave of young and brave like leaves fell to the ground. CHORUS

Shell-shocked, gassed and crippled shuffle slowly down the line,
Husks of poor humanity grown old before their time,
Helpless in their misery, torn by nature's grief,
Spirits dulled by violence and the loss of old beliefs.

I took one soldier by the arm and held him gently there.
Tears dripped slowly down his cheeks; his cries filled the morning air.
“Tell them I died bravely; I know what honour means:
Paths of morning glory and the drums of childhood dreams.” CHORUS

Thanks

Rhiannon
