And yes, still working on Goddess Quest, too. The above was the story for the movie, just in case there was confusion. *g*

Anyway, this thread is being continued here.

Hes: Glad to hear things are going well for you. Hope this move is just the ticket. Keep well and happy young lady!! Speaking of movies, your hum,ble and obedient Irish sergeant had the opportunity to work as an unpaid extra in the film "Gods and Generals" which is slated for release between Thanksgiving and Christmas. It is a major release and I'm in it if I didn't end on the cutting room floor. Hes, Darlin, hope you're abl;e to get some writing done too. You do have a flair for it. Neil

Well... interesting stuff happening.

1. I've been putting off getting welfare. I've decided to get it and move to Toronto, where I can stay with friends for a bit and then get more solid. Now I just need to find that number to apply... Sigh. I detest welfare. But, if you need help, you need help.

2. Toronto is where my current allergist is, just add money and I'll be able to get some more healing happening.

3. A multi-author fanfiction written over the internet is going to become an amateur movie in late August. Two of the major characters met in Toronto last saturday, and we decided to go for it. She has some experience with directing and producing, and knows people who can act, do makeup, direct, do effects, etc. I have experience in organizing creative projects, and in writing music.

You can find out more about the movie by going here and here.

You can read the story so far here. (The part that we'll be filming starts at the middle of page 8, everything before that is pretty much just having fun and getting to know each character, that's also partly on another thread.)

Sirepseh, if welfare would enable you to get a stable place for those three months you long for, why not go for it? I am a strong believer in working with what you've got, where you are, in order to improve things AND make major changes while in the best possible frame of mind, body, and spirit. It sounds to me like you need to regroup and, barring getting over all of the obstacles to getting to Susan's, that might be your best bet, at the moment.

With all good wishes,

kat

Whenever I have screamed "I can't take it any more!" to the universe, the bullshit has always stopped, and the changes I needed have begun. I think you just screamed. Let's see what happens over the next few days.

An option I want to mention is that if you can store your stuff and just come, even for a visit, we can go back and forth and get stuff in batches every couple of weeks. I am not portable at the moment-- but I expect to be more portable over the rest of the summer.

Neil, is there any chance you could get her across?

Hmmm, good thoughts. I definitely would need the birth certificate if we did a legal volunteering or internship thing. That would put back the estimated time of departure at least two weeks just to get that piece of paper... then more weeks for the visa... and I don't know how long I'll be able to stay here.

Also, I don't really have an address right now, which makes it difficult to get legal papers, and difficult to persuade border guards that I'm planning on coming back.

I just feel confused right now. No direction looks likely, and I've been so busy just trying to find a roof that I am no longer sure of what I WANT to do. Actually, I know what I want. I want to dig in somewhere for three months and sort through my stuff, sort through my options, and decide what I want to do. ARRRRGH!

I wondered about that too-- we sure have church letterhead and would use it, and it would actually be completely straightforward. But I'm concerned that making it official might require her to get some kind of visa that's harder to get-- that the more official it is, the more it's a problem.

Anyone on the Canadian side able to look into that?

Here's another thought. I bet, if you come up with some sort of document, like a letter of acceptance or something, hesperis could say she's coming here to work as your apprentice. Seems like that could give her a legal reason for being in the US for an extended period of time, and she could present that document when she crosses.

I had thought of that too, but I dunno the border rules or the post office rules going across the border. I know if her stuff got shipped I'd go wherever I needed to go to pick it up.

Hess, about clothes-- remember I have a whole thrift shop here right under my feet, OK? Plus lots more in the area. Plenty good stuff too....

Sigh. I got all set up, we were going to start recording tomorrow... So now their dad volunteered them to host their niece and nephew... and I'm out of a place to stay. I'm staying at another friend's place, in another city, but can only stay here for a week or two at most. If ANYONE has a spare room, particularly in the Toronto area, please let me know by PM, I'll check in a couple of days. Allergy-free would be best, but any roof is better than none. I have money for food, but would have to go on welfare for rent money... I may have to do that anyway, I'm moved four times in the past two weeks alone and am really getting sick of packing and unpacking.

They probably caught wind of your Layabout enterprise, Rick -- ya know that kind of thing is looked on as undermining the American way of life -- you and the others are threatening to put hundreds of red-blooded American couch potatos and beer drinkers out of a non-job! Americans find it awfully hard to admit that anyone else could outdo them in useless inactivity -- it's one of our national pastimes, and we take it seriously.

Boy, passport checking can be a strange process. I've crossed the border at least a hundred times in the last four or five years and never needed it. When Heather travels with me, she's usually asked about her status (landed immigrant) and that's it. One time last year while crossing at Detroit, we were both hauled in and fortunately I keep the passports in the glove compartment. Got the full treatment... lots of computer checking, and looking at photos...an hour and a half's worth....even had to state my Mother's maiden name(!) Thank goodness I remembered it.

Susan and Jande - full email of what happened will be written later today.

Will definitely get a passport as soon as possible, I have the feeling I'll be needing it for more than the states, soon.

Healing stuff will be good, as will having the opportunity to go through my papers. I'm obviously not portable enough right now. *g*

So what the heck happened? What kind of questions did they ask you? Yeah. I guess Amergin and Amos are right. A passport is a good idea. Especially since all you have to do is get the photos and apply for one. You could have it within a couple of weeks...

Hess, I have a feeling this has happened exactly as it was meant to. And I am SO pleased for you-- you get to stay in Canada and get the healthcare you need-- which had been your stated preference from the start. And you will be in a musician's household-- apparently you did not realize how much they enjoyed having you there. *G*

I did not do anything more to that room than I had already planned to do for increased guest space, so now we have nore room than ever, and the allergy-free space I had envisioned. And now I am ahead of the game because I can write a complete job description for an intern, and I have discovered how much people here are charging just for a sleeping room. *G*

As I told you, if your arrangement gets old, or you want a US base for heading to school, come on down!

Hardi and I wish you the best in ALL your adventures--

love,

~Susan

Still no word from hesperis. She had thought to arrive late this afternoon or early this evening, but now there is a tornado watch to the north and a severe storm warning here. If she is on the road now, there is some really nasty weather between us. I'm hoping she will stop at Jande's for the night, since dark and stormy is not a good combination for a drive who does not know the area.

But on the upside, the rain has washed the air nice and clean, so whatever! *G* Let's wish Hess and her friend Martin safe travel and arrival at home, soon, folks!

Curtains up, CHECK. So pretty.

Bed up there, CHECK. You assemble when you decide how to arrange.

Linens, washed, CHECK, and up there, CHECK. Bagged to keep dust off.

Shelf, other items up there-- CHECK. And there is still lots of room. You will have space for a sleeping area, a work area, and a sitting area. We can jam up there if you like.

Rag rugs, temporary till big rug comes-- CHECK, and fresh laundered too.

Everything was cleaned before it went up there or as soon as it got up there. Monica was a vacuum demon. And we dust-mopped the floor and it looks dirty but is actually pretty clean and dust-free (except for two areas needing degreasing. Dunno what got on it.).

Hardi sewed you a pretty cover to brighten up your lampshade. Tomorrow he will hem the last curtain, for the tiny side window.

Cat-- she is temporarily up in the main house's upsatairs in the room we call "sick bay," so your first couple of days here will be catless.

I am praying hard that the border guards will see a nice empty tourist car, and not see anything else, when you drive through. I have also been thinking and praying a lot about your teeth. You must be so tired, having to deal with all that today AND get ready to hit the road.

Hardi will let the parish secretary know you may call there collect tomorrow. She is there in the mornings only. I really would love to know how you fared getting through the border, if you get a chance to call along the way.

See you soon!

Yes, thanks, it's wood, but so many layers of stuff ground in, if I mop it will just turn mud. I think leaving the patina of grund-in character will do better, after a good industrial dustmopping... and then if Hess wants to paint it she can (oil-base Kilz), and if not we will toss a rug on it.

Making good progress up there on your space, Hess.

DETAILS:
Our daughter Monica is in town and she's coming over tomorrow to help me haul the bed up there. Rugs will go on sale next week probably and then it will get really nice. (We are also getting ourselves a new bed; when we do, yours will improve with a box spring under the mattress! *G*)

I'm running the linens through the wash one time more to eliminate any stray cat hairs or laundry additives, tonight.

I found an unused lamp, a chair, a nightstand, and a bookshelf lying around, and I think we will nab you a 6' table from the church (for a desk). Curtains go up tomorrow, too. You can decide how you want it all arranged when you get here! We have set aside an area downstairs for your stuff to go when you get here, so you can take your time over the succeeding days moving it upstairs.

If you can nab an outlet strip and heavy extension cord easily, up there, do it-- so you can spread electric stuff around. There are only two outlets up there.

We need to go grocery shopping when you get here-- so you can guide us on what to get. *G* Are you still a hot-dog-chomping vegan? *G* Maybe we will grill dogs to celebrate your arrival. Is that with or without cheese and chili and onions, ma'am? *G*

Alas, I have not gotten the sitting pool set up yet. :~( It just needs more bodies working on it at once... I am recruiting the neighbor next. *G* But it will warm up quickly once set up and it's good for horizontal aquasize. (Did I mention Hills Creek Lake a few miles away as well? It has a sand beach and clear swimming area.)

Hardi will run the vacuum over the downstairs Wednesday afternoon and I may even dust! (We are down to just one housecat.)

You may instruct us on the rest when you arrive. *G*

Call collect from the road, if needed.

~Susan
