From: English Jon
Date: 16 May 02 - 09:24 AM

Don't know if anyone's interested:

It's a good instrument, French style lute back, internal pick-up, with case. 3 years old. Very pretty, Canadian red cedar top, so VERY Loud. Immaculate condition.

3 chanters, (D Octaves + Additional G) 2 Trompettes (D,G - I use the G as a mouche) Tenor and Bass Bourdon (D octaves) Sympathetic strings

OIRO £2000

Interested? PM me.

Cheers, EJ

You might try John Bromka of Bells and Motley Consort (www.bellsandmotley.com) or John Roberts (who sings with Tony Barand). Both play a mean hurdy-gurdy. Who knows. They might be interested in new (or nearly new) ones.

Can't believe this is falling off the page. Anyone know the name of the gent at the Getaway who wheeled his handmade hurdy gurdy hither and yon? Maybe he would be interested. Of course, there is always Ebay.

Guest, Bill Banks- Welcome to Mudcat music site. Sorry, you are asking about a hurdy gurdy listed in a thread from 2002. I hope you find one to play. I'd like one, too.

Cordially,
maeve

Ha! The original offer to sell the Hurdy Gurdy was from 2002 so it is vanishingly inlikely that this one is available now :/

That "for sale" message was posted in 2002!

I'd be very surprised indeed if Jon, of all people, failed to sell a hurdy gurdy in eight years. Selling is what he does for a living....

*I* have that homemade HurdyGurdy from the ummm... estate... of Dick Rogers, mentioned by SINSULL 7 years ago.... he couldn't have afforded a new one, and YOU wouldn't want his old one... it is truly scary and barely operable... besides, it is local history and an icon.

Hi Bill- yes, I wondered if it was that one referred to... I think 'truly scary' is probably a generous description.

Whether it be a musical instrument or no could be the subject of another thread :/

I'd very much like one, but I know who I'd ask to build it, and he has a backlog.
