A friend is hosting a musical gathering at his new home next tuesday. He's asked that all who come, bring a song about a house.
Any suggestions would be welcome!

I vaguely remember this from childhood:

Bless this house, oh lord, we pray
Keep it safe by night and day.
Bless these walls so firm and stout
Keeping want and trouble out.
Bless this roof that we may be
Fit, oh lord, to dwell with thee,
Bless this home that it may prove
Ever open to joy and love.

OOPS - Musicman said it better:
Subject: RE: Bless this House. From: Musicman Date: 12-Jul-99 - 02:41 AM Shop: Prayer , One Day here you go.....

Bless this house, O Lord we pray, Make it safe by night and day; Bless these walls, so firm and stout, Keep-ing want and trou-ble out, Bless the roof and chim-neys tall, Let Thy peace lie o-ver all; Bless this door, that it may prove E-ver o-pen to joy and love. Bless these win-dows shi-ning bright, Let-ting in God's heav'n-ly light; Bless the hearth a-blaz-ing there, With smoke as-cend-ding like a prayer; Bless the peo-ple here with-in, Keep them pure and free from sin; Bless us all that we may be Fit, O Lord, to dwell with Thee, Bless us all that we one day May dwell, O Lord, with Thee.

"I've travelled a day
I've travelled a year
I've travelled a lifetime to find my way home
Home is where the heart is
Home is where the heart is
Home is where the heart is : my heart is with you"

great little building harmony number too; sorry, can't do music stuff ...
my SOL tape says "written for OSHO" (but I'm not sure by whom);

Cheers! R-J

Harry Belafonte sang a song called "Chimney Smoke" (pronounced "chim-un-nee smoke") that might fit. It's a guy yearning to be back at his little house with his family.

This thread reminds me of what one tourist visiting this house museum said. Evidently he and his wife travel a great deal all over the world on buying trips, rarely staying in one place more than a few weeks at a time.

I said, 'Where do you call 'home'?

He pointed to his wife. "Home is wherever she is."
