I agree michaelr -- Plainsong were superb -- they introduced me to some great songs (including my first version of 'I'll Fly Away'). I've had the 'In Search Of Amelia Earhart' album on vinyl since it came out, and a C.D. of BBC sessions from 1972 (released in '97), which has most of the 'Earhart' album plus loads more. Raider was written by Jerry Yester and Judy Henske, who were married at the time. He was in The Lovin' Spoonful and she's a brilliant singer, well worth investigating. Her official website is here and a fan site here

And here are the lyrics for you Joe:

RAIDER
(Jerry Yester & Judy Henske)

Raider stole the Morgan mare as slick as she was sly
She blackjacked Raider's rover heart and taught him how to fly
She blackjacked Raider's rover heart and taught him how to fly
Raider stole the Morgan mare as slick as she was sly

Raider sleeps out in the fields, Raider's growin' old
In freezin' winter banks the fires to keep his mare from cold
In freezin' winter banks the fires to keep his mare from cold
Raider sleeps out in the fields, Raider's growin' old

Raider she cries, there's tears in your eyes
Oh you're dreamin', oh you're dreamin' me

Shake you Raider from your sleep, the time it is all gone
Give your little mare her head and she will take you home
Give your little mare her head and she will take you home
Shake you Raider from your sleep, the time it is all gone
Raider she cries, there's tears in your eyes
Oh you're dreamin', oh you're dreamin' me

Instrumental break
Repeat Verse 1
Raider she cries, there's tears in your eyes
Oh you're dreamin', oh you're dreamin', oh you're dreamin' me

Just got out the old Plainsong LP (what a gem it is!) and the chords appear to be just Em and D, with an F#m on the "Raider, she cries..." part. At "Oh you're dreaming" you could use your pinky to fret the high G (1st string, 3rd fret) and the D (2nd string, 3rd fret which is Em7) to mirror the melody, like so: G-E-D-E, Oh-you're-drea-ming. For the little tune in the middle it goes to E major. Hope this helps!

BTW, who are Yester/Henske? The Plainsong album has no composers listed. Who else has recorded this song?

Cheers,
Michael

That's the one -- I need to go and listen to it and write them down first!

Would this be the song Iain Matthews sang that begins "Raider stole the morgan mare, as slick as she was sly"?

Michael

Thanks
