Subject: RE: Anything else going on in Shropshire? From: the lemonade lady Date: 27 Sep 02 - 05:56 AM Thaks Trev, I was just about to do this. See you tonight, old Buddy! |
Subject: RE: Anything else going on in Shropshire? From: Col K Date: 27 Sep 02 - 02:09 PM The power of two ( people that is ) how surprising that you are using the 6 Bells with all that good ale you promised me. I'll claim it sometime, meanwhile start saving Trevor. Are either you or Mrs Lemon coming to Banbury if you do I'll see you there. All the best |
Subject: RE: Anything else going on in Shropshire? From: the lemonade lady Date: 29 Sep 02 - 11:06 AM Col K: I can't come to Banbury I'm afraid - it's Charlotte's birthday that weekend. The 6 Bells went well. All the diners stayed and listened so the room was packed. There was a great poet from Tenbury. I hope he comes again. Also a newcomer to the folk world, Chris' next door neighbour, she plays flute beatifully. The next is 25th October. Sal |

Subject: RE: Anything else going on in Shropshire? From: Col K Date: 02 Oct 02 - 07:36 PM I think I've seen them, One of them owes me some drinks but I don't hold that against the others |
Subject: RE: Anything else going on in Shropshire? From: the lemonade lady Date: 03 Oct 02 - 07:02 AM I know who they are......and I've been led to believe they're pretty good! Rapsquabblion, I think they're called! |
Subject: RE: Anything else going on in Shropshire? From: GUEST,Noddy Date: 03 Oct 02 - 07:16 AM If you like harmony singing you will love Taggart and Wright. And just to make it better they are very funny. |

Subject: RE: Anything else going on in Shropshire? From: Watson Date: 15 Oct 02 - 07:41 AM There's a session at the Grove Inn at Walcot (near the sugar beet factory)on Thursday 17 October. It's a one-off for now, but it may be regular if it goes down well. Singers and musicians are welcome. |
Subject: RE: Anything else going on in Shropshire? From: the lemonade lady Date: 15 Oct 02 - 10:03 AM Is that the Walcot, near Wellington, near Telford? |
Subject: RE: Anything else going on in Shropshire? From: Watson Date: 15 Oct 02 - 10:06 AM That's the very one. |
Subject: RE: Anything else going on in Shropshire? From: GUEST Date: 15 Oct 02 - 10:12 AM Thank you kind Sir. I hope to be there, and I'll try to drag a few others along Sal |
Subject: RE: Anything else going on in Shropshire? From: Watson Date: 15 Oct 02 - 10:32 AM I think we'll find some of the usual suspects there. |
Subject: RE: Anything else going on in Shropshire? From: the lemonade lady Date: 16 Oct 02 - 11:20 AM The Cock at Brocton Nr. Worthen tonight, and every 3rd Wednesday. Why can't it be called a Cockerel? Cock seems so awfully rude to me! Tee hee Sal |
Subject: RE: Anything else going on in Shropshire? From: Trevor Date: 16 Oct 02 - 11:27 AM Reminds of that old one -'How many people from Church Stretton does it take to screw in a light bulb?' 'One - but I'd rather you didn't use the word screw!' |

Subject: RE: Anything else going on in Shropshire? From: Trevor Date: 18 Oct 02 - 04:25 AM Enjoyed that session at The Grove last night - thanks Watson & Genevieve. Is it going to be a regular? |
Subject: RE: Anything else going on in Shropshire? From: Watson Date: 18 Oct 02 - 04:53 AM Yes, it was good, wasn't it - although I did think Rapsquillion were far too professional for the rest of us. Talking to the John the landlord afterwards, he was very pleased with the evening's entertainment, so he'd like it to happen again. We need to decide whether Thursday is the best night for everyone, but we are heading for something regular. Must remember not to have anything to eat before we come out next time - there will be food provided again. |
Subject: RE: Anything else going on in Shropshire? From: the lemonade lady Date: 18 Oct 02 - 07:41 AM Watson: I really had a good time last night. Your Spanish song took a bit of working out. Why didn't Vinny play anything? Anyway I'm glad to hear you're going to make it a regular thing but please not a Wednesday night. A Friday would be good then we can really let our hair down(those with any left that is!!)and we can all sleep in on the Saturday. Sal |
Subject: RE: Anything else going on in Shropshire? From: Watson Date: 18 Oct 02 - 07:53 AM Spanish? Was I singing in Spanish? ...well bugger me. Had I been drinking? I don't know why Vin didn't play. I'm sure someone would have lent him a guitar. Perhaps he's too shy to ask. Friday is indeed a good suggestion in a hair letting down kind of a way, but there's already more going on on Fridays than any other night of the week - mainly folk clubs as opposed to sessions, but a lot of competition for folkies nevertheless. |
Subject: RE: Anything else going on in Shropshire? From: Mr Red Date: 18 Oct 02 - 08:16 AM (near the sugar beet factory) ist? You'll be wanting the sweet sound of a bodhran then.... |
Subject: RE: Anything else going on in Shropshire? From: Watson Date: 18 Oct 02 - 08:25 AM Strange thing - I thought I heard a bodhran, but it turned out to be pool balls falling when someone put a coin in th table. |
Subject: RE: Anything else going on in Shropshire? From: Trevor Date: 18 Oct 02 - 08:43 AM And the slot machine, which was next to my right ear, was humming in the same key as your Spanish song. Are machines taking over the world? |
Subject: RE: Anything else going on in Shropshire? From: Watson Date: 18 Oct 02 - 08:57 AM Trevor, I've heard Robin Williamson take his pitch from a generator at a festival, so I thought I'd try it with a slot machine. |
Subject: RE: Anything else going on in Shropshire? From: the lemonade lady Date: 18 Oct 02 - 02:32 PM I find my vacuum cleaner is Bflat, which is a great starting note for me with a few songs. I practice most of my songs when I vacuum. ......and yes Trev I do sometimes, cos I've got a blonde dog and a dark red carpet! Thursdays are good, we don't go to anything (except Much Dewchurch in Herefordshire)on a Thursday. Sal |
Subject: RE: Anything else going on in Shropshire? From: the lemonade lady Date: 21 Oct 02 - 09:54 AM May I remind those that live near and in Shropshire, that this Friday 25th October is 6 Bells night. It's every 4th Friday of the month and it's here again! Chris is away in Italy so I s'pose I'm in the 'chair'. Sal |
Subject: RE: Anything else going on in Shropshire? From: the lemonade lady Date: 21 Oct 02 - 09:55 AM I forgot to say 6 Bells is in Bishop's Castle. Silly me! |
Subject: RE: Anything else going on in Shropshire? From: Col K Date: 21 Oct 02 - 06:30 PM Is that the 6 Bells that brews its own beer and was one of the host pubs for the Bishops Castle Folk Weekend earlier this year. Can we have another one? |
Subject: RE: Anything else going on in Shropshire? From: the lemonade lady Date: 22 Oct 02 - 12:52 PM Yes Sir Col K but we have a bit of a difference of oppinion about the dates at the moment. I would like it to be the week before Alcester but others in Bishop's Castle would like THE weekend of Alcester. Personally I don't think this is a very good idea. What do you think?Would we lose a lot of people to Alcester? Answers please. Sal |
Subject: RE: Anything else going on in Shropshire? From: Snuffy Date: 22 Oct 02 - 03:01 PM You'd lose me for one (4 miles from Alcester) |
Subject: RE: Anything else going on in Shropshire? From: alanww Date: 22 Oct 02 - 03:25 PM And you'd lose me too, I guess, Sally. (Unless Navy Cut or Bold Heroes were booked to perform I suppose? But even then my heart would be at Alcester.) What possible reason could there be deliberately to clash the fledgeling Bishop's Castle FF with an established FF which is only 40 miles away and which is more accessible to most of the rest of the country? Got to go now, as there is a music/song session at the Holly Bush in Alcester - which I count as my local! All the best. |
Subject: RE: Anything else going on in Shropshire? From: Col K Date: 22 Oct 02 - 03:39 PM Yes you would lose many people to Alcester, it is established, good, easily accessible and relatively nearby. Don't do it, go for 1st weekend in June nothing nearby to clash with and near to this years date, i.e. swopped with Chippenham with them back to May bank holiday as usual. Hope these comments help in your deliberations. |
