Subject: Hey Rick! Get off my TV! From: Clinton Hammond Date: 23 May 02 - 06:46 PM I'm boppin' around my living room getting ready for band rehearsal, with Galaxy playing in the background... (Galaxy is one of the digital TV music providers) This guy with a song called "This One's The Dreamer" comes on and I holler to herself, "Hey! Rick Fielding's on the TV" "Tell him to get off, he's gonna break it" was her response... Give her a big hand folks... ;-) (Oh... and one for him too I guess...) |

Subject: RE: Review: Hey Rick! Get off my TV! From: p.j. Date: 23 May 02 - 07:31 PM Wow, Rick that's great! What's the broadcast range? Is there a way for us to see it out here in Californee? pj |
Subject: RE: Review: Hey Rick! Get off my TV! From: Rick Fielding Date: 23 May 02 - 07:47 PM Hmmmmmm...broadcast range eh? Haven't got a clue. I DO know some verrry strange things happen though. For years I used to get a pittance from South Africa, and even somewhere in South America......so SOMEONE'S got the reecords! Thanks Clinton, I'll get offa your TV if you get offa my cloud! Cheers Rick |
Subject: RE: Review: Hey Rick! Get off my TV! From: Devilmaster Date: 23 May 02 - 11:49 PM For P.J., Galaxy is the cogeco cable version of the music 800s channels of DTV, up here in Canada. I dont have digital cable, damn I wish I was over at his place. Clinton, I'll bring some more chili if it gets me in the door. :) Steve |
Subject: RE: Review: Hey Rick! Get off my TV! From: Nigel Parsons Date: 24 May 02 - 05:13 AM Hayrick on a tv., aren't they highly combustible ? (I was going to say imflamable, but we've had the thread on that!) |
Subject: RE: Review: Hey Rick! Get off my TV! From: p.j. Date: 24 May 02 - 11:44 AM Thanks, Steve. Sounds like even if we had digital cable we wouldn't get the Canadian version. Rick, does this mean you have a music video floating around someplace that your adoring Stateside fans haven't seen? Can it be shown via the elves & faeries over the internet? pj |
Subject: RE: Review: Hey Rick! Get off my TV! From: katlaughing Date: 24 May 02 - 12:10 PM pj, I think it is just audio, at least that is what our cable music channels were, when we had cable. A screen pops up when each new piece starts, identifying the piece, composer, and artist, then the screen goes black until the next one. |

Subject: RE: Review: Hey Rick! Get off my TV! From: MMario Date: 24 May 02 - 12:33 PM Reminds me of last year - just about this time - as I'm driving through this little Texas town (little for Texas - about 20 times the size of the town I live in)- hunting for this place I was told "you can't miss" - figgered out I had the right place as I slowed down and heard "This One's the Dreamer" playing on the loudspeakers. |
Subject: RE: Review: Hey Rick! Get off my TV! From: gnu Date: 24 May 02 - 12:56 PM I heard it too. But I HEARD it. It's not a video. Galaxy, at least "Down East" is audio only. Is there a video ? No, nevermind... I like the tune. |
Subject: RE: Review: Hey Rick! Get off my TV! From: Clinton Hammond Date: 24 May 02 - 02:23 PM Yes there is no video feed... |
Subject: RE: Review: Hey Rick! Get off my TV! From: Little Hawk Date: 25 May 02 - 12:08 PM RICK FIELDING ON TV???? Shocking!!! This means he has sold out! He cannot be deemed a true folksinger if he appears on TV! Well...maybe if it's just a one-time thing we can let him off...maybe. But if he's started appearing in an ongoing music series, like the Partridge Family or the Monkees or Hee-Haw, he's finished! :-) - LH |
Subject: RE: Review: Hey Rick! Get off my TV! From: catspaw49 Date: 25 May 02 - 12:23 PM okay.......as the fat boy now tells tales out of school............. Rick has done a music video. He told me about it several years ago and I no longer remember any of the details. It wasn't for MTV or VH1, but for another one of the channels that I had always kind of associated with hard rock at the time....For the life of me I can't recall their name right now......maybe it was "Much"??? Anyway, I don't recall the song either and the only thing I do remember was that it was shot in either his or his neighbor's yard and there was a story that went along with it. Okay Rick....Cats out of the bag........Sorry............ Spaw |
Subject: RE: Review: Hey Rick! Get off my TV! From: GUEST,Bob Rabinovitch Date: 25 May 02 - 12:31 PM Galaxy is the cogeco cable version of the music 800s channels of DTV, up here in Canada. Galaxy is a digital music service with 30 different channels, including a folk-roots chhanel, that is available on all digital cable and sattelite services in Canada. Cogeco is just one of several services in Canada that carry Galaxy. Galaxy is owned by the CBC. |
Subject: RE: Review: Hey Rick! Get off my TV! From: Devilmaster Date: 25 May 02 - 01:23 PM :) Nothing like being corrected by the head of the CBC himself..... hey Bob, I've been waiting for the "famous inside' radio play that has a 12 part Northwest Passage. Play it, damnit! :) Steve |
Subject: RE: Review: Hey Rick! Get off my TV! From: Devilmaster Date: 25 May 02 - 01:24 PM Oh yeah, I almost forgot. Bring back old Mr. Dressup, with Casey and Finnigan, And The Friendly Giant! :) Steve |
Subject: RE: Review: Hey Rick! Get off my TV! From: GUEST,Bob Rabinovitch Date: 25 May 02 - 01:57 PM I guess you didn't hear the news. Ernie Coombs (Mr. Dressup) died last year. Bob Homme (The Friendly Giant) died two years ago. |
Subject: RE: Review: Hey Rick! Get off my TV! From: Peter T. Date: 25 May 02 - 02:22 PM I've seen Rick's video. The three best parts are (1) where the dancers gyrate around the totem pole swathed in dry ice; (2) Rick, wearing one of those oversize cowboy hats drives across the desert in the convertible passing Shania Twain, who looks wistfully after him; and (3) where he sits in the abandoned country house, the curtains swaying as he picks up a busted picture of little Corinna and the camera dissolves to the three of them in happier times. It is hard to pack it into one video, but he did it. A must see. yours, Peter T. |
Subject: RE: Review: Hey Rick! Get off my TV! From: Devilmaster Date: 25 May 02 - 02:26 PM :) Someone as great as the great Bob Rabinovitch, head of the CBC, would naturally have heard of reruns. I mean, shheeeit, thats pretty much CBC's daily programming schedule. If it isn't a rerun of Coronation Street, its some rerun of an American show. |
Subject: RE: Review: Hey Rick! Get off my TV! From: Little Hawk Date: 25 May 02 - 03:35 PM Peter - LOL! Sounds absolutely classic. I gotta get a copy! - LH |
Subject: RE: Review: Hey Rick! Get off my TV! From: Rick Fielding Date: 26 May 02 - 02:35 PM I got involved with a BIZARRE project a while ago. Sang three or four songs for the TV camera, with a blank white background. The producer asked me to change clothes (sort of) for each song. The clips were cut up and background scenes were added afterwards. About a year later, I saw one of these (can't remember where, but it wasn't Canada) and there I was singing with a WATERFALL in the background! The checks didn't bounce and it's still better than playing Jukebox at a Bar Mitzvah....but it was a weird feeling. Cheers Rick |
Subject: RE: Review: Hey Rick! Get off my TV! From: Clinton Hammond Date: 26 May 02 - 02:37 PM Man... You get all the BEST gigs Rick... ;-) |
