Ok, so it's not folk, but if I could please crave the indulgence of seeking lyrics from the 50's. The chorus goes something like "I wuv you, I wuv you to death". I think he was a Martian of some persuasion. The singer got sick of the wuv you bit and hurled him off a roof top. Is this the same song as "The Martian Hop"? Hope that this is not too obscure for our readership.

This is one of my favorite "demented" songs. I just dis- covered this forum, and as soon as I check out a few more questions, I'll go listen to my tape of "Little Blue Man" and I'll transcribe the words. I'll Be Back!!

Here are the lyrics

THE LITTLE BLUE MAN
As recorded by Betty Johnson, 1957.

One morning when I was out shopping,
Though you'll find it hard to believe,
A little blue man came out of the crowd
And timidly tugged at my sleeve.

CHORUS: "I wuv you, I wuv you," said the little blue man.
"I wuv you, I wuv you to bits!
I wuv you!" He loved me, said the little blue man,
And scared me right out of my wits.

I hurried back to my apartment.
I rushed in and I closed the door,
But there on the desk stood the little blue man
Who started to tell me once more: CHORUS

For weeks after that I was haunted,
Though no one could see him but me.
Right by my side was the little blue man
Wherever I happened to be.

"I WUV YOU!"

One evening in wild desperation
I rushed to a roof top in town
And over the side PUSHED the little blue man
Who sang to me all the way down: CHORUS

I whispered, "Thank goodness that's over!"
I smiled as I hurried outside,
But there on the street stood the little blue man
Who said with a tear in his eye:

"I don't wuv you anymore."

Just found more information: The song was written in 1958 by Fred Ebb (sp.) who also wrote "Caberet". The Orchestra was led by Charles Greene, who also wrote "The Thing" and the singer was Charles' wife, Betty Johnson.

I am looking for the sheet music to this song, as well. I am willing
to pay the download fee, but cannot find any of the major music sites
that have the song. Can anyone help Guest and myself? Thank you.

GUEST (06Mar11 belatedly) and Fran -

Here's a quick lead sheet from the Betty Johnson recording on youtube: The Little Blue Man. It may not be exact, but it should give you enough to work with.

If you don't know what to do with the abc code below, copy it (from X:1 to the last w:*...(I)) and paste it into the abc converter at Mandolintab.net. Paste the code in the big box, select the paper size and press Submit. You will then see a page with the lead sheet on it. Click the pdf link underneath the score to create a pdf of it, or click the midi link for a midi file.
