Subject: Lyr Add: BONFIRE (Kevin Gilfoy) From: Jack Lewin Date: 02 Jun 02 - 02:38 PM BONFIRE (kevin gilfoy) (chorus) The stars they would dance to the songs that we sang And we would all watch the embers glow We had each other and our times together Were the best you could ever know We knew we were poor but we had so much more Of what makes life special, that's for sure Life was so much simpler then Around the bonfire on the shore Dad was gone all week so we were able to eat He'd sell tools to the hardware stores On his one night at home we all would get him alone To tell our stories of the week before He'd smile and he'd say in his own special way "They are the best tales a man could hope for" And with a smile and a wink he would all make us think That he was prouder than the week before chorus Then we'd head for the beach and from there he would teach Us songs we had never heard before His voice it would rise above the swell of the tide He'd sing songs full of love and war Songs of how men had died full of pure Irish pride Songs of hope that made our spirits soar And we'd all join in until we had to give in And fall asleep to the ocean's roar chorus When I look back on those days I can still see the way That my dad looked at all of his boys The one little girl with the pretty black curls Is what gave the man so much joy When he'd have to away he would never let us say The word "goodbye" because that seemed too long He'd give a pat on the back, say "so long til I'm back" To teach you all another song chorus kg |

Subject: Lyr Add: MARGAREE (Kevin Gilfoy) From: Jack Lewin Date: 12 Jun 02 - 12:47 PM MARGAREE (kevin gilfoy) Well my name is John Andrew MacFarlane The year is eighteen hundred and three I'm sitting alone with my axe and my stone Staring up at another tree I'll sharpen my blade to cut timbers Although none of it's for me But things will be different When I get down to Margaree They're waiting for word back in Pictou They're waiting there to hear from me They're waiting to hear if the land has been cleared And it's time to bring the family There will be plenty of room on this homstead But there isn't any room for me But things will be different When I get down to Margaree Well, my father said he wanted to see me On the day that we put out to sea said "For the love of your clan And respect for the land, boy Now this is how it has to be You're my oldest son, lad and I love you But there's just too many mouths to feed So you'll build me my homestead And you'll move on to Margaree" So now I'm breaking my back on his axe and his plow I'm building his dreams on the sweat of my brow I want to say I want to stay but my pride won't allow ... I wonder if it's like I imagined? I wonder if there's fish in the streams? I wonder if the land will be kind to this man? If there's a pretty girl waiting for me? But for now I guess I'll keep on working I guess I'll knock myself another tree For my time will come When I get down to Margaree Oh yes the world will be mine When I get down to Margaree kg |

Subject: Lyr Add: WHEN HEIRLIHY CAME TO TOWN (Kevin Gilfoy) From: Jack Lewin Date: 12 Jun 02 - 07:34 PM WHEN HEIRLIHY CAME TO TOWN (kevin gilfoy) When Heirlihy came to town me boys We all just stopped and stared What the hell is a Man-o-War doing way over here? She came through the strait, and around the cape And now she's sitting there laying in wait With her flags a Flying When Heirlihy came to town When Heirlihy came a shore me boys We all just stopped and stared Why the hell would a Man-o-War carry the likes of him? Did he steal the ship? Did he win the war? And what the hell is he doing here for? He's a yankee major And Heirlihy's come to town Well Heirlihy said think what you will You see for I don't care I fought the British at Bunker Hill, they took me captive there For they swelled their ranks and they sealed our flanks And they said join up or you'll walk the plank So I'll lead your armies Said Heirlihy to the Crown So they put me aboard this Man-o-War And they told me to wait right here You'll do your duty in foreign lands for King and Country there You'll lead our men and you'll win our wars You'll come back here and this land will be yours You're a man of honor In favor with the Crown Well Heirlihy said just who the hell Do they think they're dealing with here A red coat I will never wear, their men I'll never lead As soon as they turn that ship around I'll get me a guide and I'm Boston bound And I'll see my men Before snowfall hits the ground (repeat verse one) kg
note - Heirlihy pronounced Her-Lee-High |

Subject: Lyr Add: CLAYMORE (Kevin Gilfoy) From: Jack Lewin Date: 24 Feb 04 - 08:43 PM been away for a while and I thought I'd throw this one in CLAYMORE (kevin gilfoy) chorus So I'll walk through the highlands with claymore in hand Through all the old trails lined with heather For when I come back down, for the new world I am bound And my highlands are gone from me forever Look yon lies the grave of young Cameron the brave As lads we would work the fields together He was young and strong and tall, but at Culloden he would fall Taken down by muskett ball and dragoon saber. chorus From here I see the glen where the Falkirk fight began Where Cumberland's men met Charlie's army Where the clansmen took the field, held their ground, refused to yeild To the sound of pipes and drums They marched in glory chorus And there stands the tree where my father gave to me This stout, broad sword of which I carry He said "hold it like a man, use if for the love of clan and it will serve you as well as it once served me." chorus So I'll lay my claymore down on this hallowed highland ground By the cairn where we told our ancient stories For no weapons can be see when we board the Aberdeen So my claymore must stay here with my memories. chorus |
