Subject: Mechanical license know how From: GUEST,SingedCat Date: 05 Jun 02 - 11:11 AM Hi there-- I'm about to put out a CD, and I want to include a cover of a rather underplayed John Prine song on it, Rocky Mountain Time. It's not on the Harry Fox Agency's songlist site, so I can't get the licensing for it that way. Does anybody know how else I can get permission to record this song? AT this point I'm considering just licensing one of the songs they *do* have by Prine so he'll get the money, or making a quarterly donation to him through fairmusic.com but I'd rather do it the accepted way. This is my first CD and I want to get this right.

Subject: RE: Help: Mechanical license know how From: michaelr Date: 06 Jun 02 - 01:43 AM If it's been recorded before, you don't need permission. You just pay the standard fee (last time I checked it was something like $.07 per song, per CD pressed). Cheers, Michael |
