Subject: Best Open MICs From: GUEST,Tom Fielding Date: 05 Jun 02 - 03:41 PM So where in the USA is the best concentration of Open MICs/Stages for those who are about to launch themselves into the performer/songwriter music world? San Francisco used to be a great place--but no more. I've heard Pioneer Valley and Greater Boston in MASS are best--but what about Seattle, North Carolina-TENN? Any other suggestions? |

Subject: RE: Best Open MICs From: Stewart Date: 05 Jun 02 - 04:32 PM There are 3 great open mics in Seattle/Tacoma area, put on by Victory Music - CHECK HERE. I am a "regular" at the Still Life in the Fremont area of Seattle. It's a funky little coffeehouse, great food, acoustics could be better (but not bad), great volunteers, and an appreciative listening audience. Every Wed evening, signup by 6:45, music from 7 pm to 9:30. Two songs or 8 min performance. Cheers, S. in Seattle |

Subject: RE: Best Open MICs From: Janice in NJ Date: 05 Jun 02 - 05:58 PM Open mikes are a great way of getting on-stage experience and they are good places to try out new material, but they are seldom launching pads for careers. You must do much, much more to build up a following, including playing at small, non-paying festivals like NEFFA in Massachusetts. Also try campus pubs, cafes, libraries with music programs, high schools, community centers, charity fundraisers, and any place that will be willing to have you for little or no money. But you will get heard. You should also check out some of the community song circles that have been popping up all around North America (and probably elsewhere). |

Subject: RE: Best Open MICs From: Deda Date: 06 Jun 02 - 06:26 PM Boulder (Colorado) has a regular one at Conor O' somethings (used to be the James, an Irish pub) on Pearl St., and there's a volunteer bluegrass group that performs on Monday nights at Foolish Craig's, also on Pearl Street. I think that Foolish Craig's will let others perform if you bring in a certain number of your own audience who will order food. And Penny Lane, also on Pearl St., has regular open mics, where anything goes. And I know of these 3 without any effort at all, just from living here a long time. |

Subject: RE: Best Open MICs From: Tweed Date: 06 Jun 02 - 08:24 PM Whoop, sorry. Meant Eddie Campbell. However Mz. EC Scott will be down there later on this month. Regards, Tweed ...no affiliation with bamboo room other than I'm convinced it's about the best dang blues bar you'll find in all of Florida. |
