Subject: Who's going to Old Songs? From: Susan A-R Date: 06 Jun 02 - 11:11 PM Just reserved my ticket and campsite. This year I'm noping to stay through until Monday. This thread may be out there, but my frail serarch capacity did not reveal anything. So Who Is Going?? Susan A-R |
Subject: RE: Who's going to Old Songs? From: Barry Finn Date: 07 Jun 02 - 12:53 AM See ya there Susan. There is another thread floating about somewhere. My son says he wants to go with me, good for him, but my daughter & wife say that they're busy walking the cat that weekend. See ya soon, Barry |
Subject: RE: Who's going to Old Songs? From: Desert Dancer Date: 07 Jun 02 - 01:10 AM This is the first Old Songs 2002 thread with much of the answer to your questions, and , here's the other more recent one. ~ Becky in Tucson |
Subject: RE: Who's going to Old Songs? From: Zhenya Date: 07 Jun 02 - 05:32 PM May as well make this the third thread for latecomers! I just got my ticket now. The friend I usually go with couldn't make it this year, but then another friend wanted to go. And I have to eat my words, because on some Old Songs thread months ago, I said I stay in a motel and don't usually camp there (well I did camp once before.) But this year I will be camping. It's also the first year I'm bringing an instrument up (fiddle) as the other friend didn't play/sing and wasn't interested in hanging around for the late-night sessions or other wise making music herself. (She did really enjoy the performances though.) I didn't totally mind not having an instrument with me before as there is always so much to do at Old Songs anyway. In fact, this is going to further complicate the daytime schedule for me, as it will give me even more options to choose from! So, looking forward to listening and playing (and singing) and hope to meet some Mudcatters there! Zhenya

Subject: RE: Who's going to Old Songs? From: Burke Date: 07 Jun 02 - 06:55 PM Buying a house so I'm not sure if I'll make it. Anyone else distressed that Down from the Mountain will be at Darien Lake, June 28? Decisions, decisions. |

Subject: RE: Who's going to Old Songs? From: kendall Date: 07 Jun 02 - 07:25 PM Should we look for the little man who wasn't there? |
Subject: RE: Who's going to Old Songs? From: Midchuck Date: 07 Jun 02 - 07:50 PM Yesterday, upon the stair, I saw a man who wasn't there. He wasn't there again today. I wish to **** he'd go away! Peter. |
Subject: RE: Who's going to Old Songs? From: kendall Date: 07 Jun 02 - 09:22 PM One of the things I look forward to at Old Songs, is hanging out at the Woodchucks compound. Most of my time is spent between there and the Folk Legacy area. I'll be wearing either my Mudcat tee shirt, (thanks to Harpgirl) or my Llama tee shirt, (thanks to Sinsull) |
Subject: RE: Who's going to Old Songs? From: SINSULL Date: 08 Jun 02 - 12:37 PM I will be there, possibly wearing a cast. My knee is to be X-rayed next week. Maybe surgery; maybe not. If anyone between Portland and Old Songs needs a ride, PM me. I expect to leave here on Friday and return on Monday but my schedule is flexible...unlike my knee. |
Subject: RE: Who's going to Old Songs? From: Sandy Paton Date: 08 Jun 02 - 03:42 PM Caroline and I will be there, hanging out around the Folk-Legacy booth with folks like Kendall, karen k, Duane, hopefully Sinsull (we can provide an extra chair for cranky knees) and others. Hope the Shaws get there again, as I want to get one of their CDs to replace the one I lost through sheer negligence in the Mudcat auction bidding. Sandy |
Subject: RE: Who's going to Old Songs? From: bigchuck Date: 08 Jun 02 - 03:59 PM Kendall, if you ask nicely perhaps Midchuck will bring his LoveEwe as a companion for your llama. Sandy (duckin and runnin). |
Subject: RE: Who's going to Old Songs? From: Jeri Date: 08 Jun 02 - 04:34 PM Would you Chucks like some coffee to replace what I guzzled last year? Brand/flavor? (I don't mean something like "Spinach-Macadamia Surprise" - I mean like "KenyaAA" or "French Roast." I'm not taking out a second mortgage either, so Jamaican Blue Mtn is out of the question.) |
Subject: RE: Who's going to Old Songs? From: DonMeixner Date: 08 Jun 02 - 04:55 PM Sinsull, Win the bracelet in the auction and I'll bring it to you and save a raft of postage and insurance. Don |
Subject: RE: Who's going to Old Songs? From: Midchuck Date: 08 Jun 02 - 05:14 PM French Roast is just ducky. Warn me if I need to bring the portable grinder. Peter. |
Subject: RE: Who's going to Old Songs? From: Barbara Shaw Date: 08 Jun 02 - 05:24 PM Sandy, huh? How did you lose the CD in the auction? Did Max send it to you? I would really love to get back to Old Songs. I'm working on it . . . |
Subject: RE: Who's going to Old Songs? From: Jeri Date: 08 Jun 02 - 06:22 PM Peter, I'll make sure to grind it before leaving. I'd assume doing the grinding in a campground might wake the "neigbors." Barbara, sounds like Sandy just got outbid. Hope you can make it. |
Subject: RE: Who's going to Old Songs? From: Barbara Shaw Date: 08 Jun 02 - 08:35 PM There were two ShoreGrass CDs, and both kinda dropped off the active list because no messages were posted. Sandy's bid was last on one of them. I just put a note on each one to make them show up even though closed. Curious. Hope I get to meet you, Jeri. |
Subject: RE: Who's going to Old Songs? From: kendall Date: 09 Jun 02 - 01:15 AM I hope you and Frank can get to Old Songs; I'd like his opinion of my new banjo. I'd also like to hear it played by someone who plays well. |
Subject: RE: Who's going to Old Songs? From: Midchuck Date: 09 Jun 02 - 08:08 AM Now Kendall, you know you can either "play the banjo," or "play well." "Play the banjo well" is a obvious oxymoron. Peter. PS to anyone whom I may have offended: If you've never told a lawyer joke, or laughed at anyone else telling one, I apologize. If you ever have done so, as our British isles members would say, bugger off! |

Subject: RE: Who's going to Old Songs? From: GUEST,Midchuck downstairs Date: 13 Jun 02 - 10:38 PM Maybe I will bring the Luv Ewe. I can always tether it to a tent pole so's Kendall or bigchuck don't elope with it. But it might attract too many banjo players, the sweet thang... Peter. |
Subject: RE: Who's going to Old Songs? From: DonMeixner Date: 13 Jun 02 - 11:00 PM Peter, You could bring her in a Ewe-Haul trailor, maybe. Don |
Subject: RE: Who's going to Old Songs? From: Sandy Paton Date: 13 Jun 02 - 11:11 PM Barbara: No, Max didn't send it to me, probably because I thought I'd lost out on the bidding when I was away for awhile, and didn't know I'd won it. Since I never sent Max the money, he, in his wisdom, never sent the CD. I will mail him a check tomorrow, and he will surely take care of it. My goof! Sandy |
Subject: RE: Who's going to Old Songs? From: Barbara Shaw Date: 14 Jun 02 - 08:58 AM Woops. Sandy, check your e-mail and your postal mail before you do anything! Kendall, if you and Frank start talking about banjo parts and get into one of those banjo trances, there's no hope for either of you. His eyes started to glaze over when I mentioned your new banjo, so I'm expecting the worst. |
Subject: RE: Who's going to Old Songs? From: kendall Date: 14 Jun 02 - 09:23 AM Not me deah! I find that sort of thing very boring after about two minutes! |

Subject: RE: Who's going to Old Songs? From: Susan of DT Date: 14 Jun 02 - 07:26 PM Dick Greenhaus and I will be there, often hanging around Folk Legacy. We will have mudcat tee shirts and patches for those who need them. |
Subject: RE: Who's going to Old Songs? From: Susan A-R Date: 14 Jun 02 - 10:08 PM I feel the need for a Tee Shirt coming on. . . And I want to sing until at least four in the morning this year, none of that wimpy two a.m. stuff for me this time. (of course, given the week I have coming up before I head to Old Songs, I'll be lucky to be upright past 8:00) I'm putting Pam on notice. I'm sleeping in the car on the way down.

Subject: RE: Who's going to Old Songs? From: Midchuck Date: 14 Jun 02 - 10:39 PM Me & Mizchuck will be celebrating 35 years of uninterrupted living hell this Tuesday, the 18th. We thought we might delay the formal anniversary party until Sat. night of Old Songs. How much really cheap, nasty champagne will we need if everyone comes? Where's the cheapest place to buy really bad champagne between Rutland, VT and Albany? Peter. |
Subject: RE: Who's going to Old Songs? From: TeriLu Date: 15 Jun 02 - 01:40 AM Hey Jeri, I'd love to come and see you and play some music with you, after all these years. Haven't seen you since high school - what a kick! And of course, George W. will be there, and Jackie Alper might make it with the help of Margie and Ed from the 8th Step. So, I hope I can get there. I haven't been in 18 yrs, since my daughter was born. Hope to find you there! Terilu (T.Roben) |
Subject: RE: Who's going to Old Songs? From: Jeri Date: 15 Jun 02 - 08:53 AM TeriLu, I'm really looking forward to seeing you again! As to playing together - great! I hang around the Folk Legacy booth during the day, and it's a good space for quiet, uncrowded music. George or someone else can point me out if you don't recognize me. (Or point you out to me.) I don't look a whole lot different than I did back in "the days." Midchuck, how about a B.Y.O.C. party? |
Subject: RE: Who's going to Old Songs? From: Charlie Baum Date: 15 Jun 02 - 11:39 PM I'll be there; driving up from Maryland with my high-school classmate and another friend. Arriving Friday sometime. See y'all. --Charlie Baum |
Subject: RE: Who's going to Old Songs? From: DaveJ Date: 16 Jun 02 - 05:36 AM As I said in a previous thread, I'll be there...probably near the Chuck's campsite. I'm almost afraid to mention it, but did anybody else read the comments in the 'legal' sized sheet that came with the tickets. It says that their are to be 'NO open flames' and by that they also mean campstoves. Apparently, this is to comply with some new New York State Health Dept. regulation. Egad! How am I going to make my coffee in the morning? DaveJ |
Subject: RE: Who's going to Old Songs? From: Barbara Shaw Date: 16 Jun 02 - 07:53 AM I'm told that the grassy area is reserved for tents, and RV's that do not need hook-ups can camp on the asphalt outside of the fence that surrounds the infield, behind the grandstand. This would be much closer than the "quiet area" where we were relegated last time - definitely not my kinda place. Does this sound like it would be better for commuting to the stage and workshops and concessions, and for the occasional jam, or would we be better off back with the regular sites with hook-ups? Do any of you have RV's and camp on the ashphalt? Are there openings in that fence? |
Subject: RE: Who's going to Old Songs? From: Jeri Date: 16 Jun 02 - 09:30 AM Barbara, the area in back of the grandstand definitely has a lot of room adjacent to the "music at night/quiet in morning" area, not the "quiet at night/lets get up at 6AM and yell" area. It's a LOT closer to the stage, concession and crafts areas. There are openings in various places along the fence. I've never had any problems finding a way to the rest room that's back there. |
Subject: RE: Who's going to Old Songs? From: kendall Date: 16 Jun 02 - 09:32 AM Yes, there are opening in the fence. The motor home area is a way off from the tenting area, so, that means either picking in the asphalt jungle, or, walking to other sites. I usually dont spend much time at my campsite anyway. The fire thing is meant to keep us from burning the grass. An elevated camp stove is acceptable. |
Subject: RE: Who's going to Old Songs? From: GUEST,Burke Date: 16 Jun 02 - 05:02 PM Check the Old Songs web site for an update on the fires. Camp Stoves are OK. |
Subject: RE: Who's going to Old Songs? From: DaveJ Date: 17 Jun 02 - 12:46 AM Burke, Thanks for the update on the stoves issue. I read your post and being a skeptic, looked for my self. I can now make my coffee with out having to watch out for the "New York State Stove Police." DaveJ |
Subject: RE: Who's going to Old Songs? From: Barbara Shaw Date: 17 Jun 02 - 08:00 AM Thanks for the replies, Jeri and Kendall. I'm still kind of put off by the fact that we have to be isolated off in the asphalt area, rather than with other campers. This does not happen at any of the 8 to 10 other festivals we go to each summer. It's not like we damage anything or block anyone's view or whatever it is they are protecting the area from. We're there for the music, as people who know us know. Anyway, hope to be there, although I'm holding off making the commitment by actually buying tickets in advance. Might just go for a few hours like we did last year and then move on down the road to something else. |
Subject: RE: Who's going to Old Songs? From: Midchuck Date: 17 Jun 02 - 12:28 PM Hey, I've been to some Bluegrass festivals where the RV people were kings, and the tent campers were considered disreputable hippies who were made to camp 'way off in a corner, out of sight. If Old Songs takes the opposite approach, they're to be commended (IMO) for helping restore balance. Peter. |
Subject: RE: Who's going to Old Songs? From: GUEST,Mike Strobel Date: 17 Jun 02 - 12:34 PM Hey 'Catter's , When your coming through GATE 3 , ask for Mike Strobel so I get to put a face with ALL of your famous names. Make me stay up late one night so I can do some pickin, singin and grinin with all of you wonderful folks. Mike |
Subject: RE: Who's going to Old Songs? From: Jeri Date: 17 Jun 02 - 05:45 PM It's rough to stick a tent in between the motorized giants, so I can understand separating them. Also, the place gets very crowded. You can park an RV anywhere, but I can't drive tent stakes through asphalt. I wouldn't think you'd be isolated - nobody's isolated unless they want to be, and I'd think even they might have problems. If I remember correctly, the area Barbara's talking about isn't that far away. Places outside the fence can be much closer to the music-at-night side than most of the the quiet side is to the most of the M-a-N side. (Heck of an acronym, ain't it?) Last year, I was in a tent right up beside the concrete barrier and could have hit the grandstands with a good pitch. The Chucks have a compound, complete with large sign - you can't miss it. There's usually someone there, and they're very friendly to foriegners from other campsites. I've also wandered around at night and ended up sitting down at a complete stranger's campsite. Likewise, folks will do it at "your place," if you give them the slightest encouragement. |
Subject: RE: Who's going to Old Songs? From: Naemanson Date: 17 Jun 02 - 05:50 PM I wish I had arranged to camp at the site instead of going for the motel room. But maybe next year... if I'm still within range. |
Subject: RE: Who's going to Old Songs? From: Burke Date: 18 Jun 02 - 05:22 PM Just got my ticket by way of someone not using theirs. Looks like I'll be at the Best Western, but I'll wear my Mudcat T-shirt some & my MMario shawl so long as there's no mud. |
Subject: RE: Who's going to Old Songs? From: Jeri Date: 18 Jun 02 - 07:12 PM Brett, what makes you think you're gonna SLEEP?! And - HEY FOLKS - BRETT'S GOT A SHOWER!!! (You could probably make back the cost of the room and a bit of pocket money if you sold tickets to the shower.) |
Subject: RE: Who's going to Old Songs? From: Naemanson Date: 19 Jun 02 - 12:34 PM Jeri, I expect I'll be in the shower between 9:00 and 9:30. Other than that I'll either be asleep or away from the room. If members of the feminine gender wish to share the shower with me then that is when it is available, and there will be no charge. I do not share my shower with members of my own gender. This is not due to any homophobic tendencies but it is a delayed reaction to high school locker rooms and showers. [GRIN] |
Subject: RE: Who's going to Old Songs? From: Ferrara Date: 19 Jun 02 - 12:44 PM As Naemanson said about missing the Mystic festival this year: "WAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH! " I'm already working on getting there next year, though. Rita |
