Subject: Child Ballad discussion on WFDU-FM
From: Ron Olesko
Date: 12 Jun 02 - 09:53 AM

This Sunday on WFDU-FM's TRADITIONS I will be talking to Mark Heiman of Loomis House Press. Mark is the publisher of a new "corrected second edition" of Francis James Child's five volume collection of English and Scottish Popular Ballads. (Volume 1 is now available, Volume 2 is scheduled for release this fall.)

We will discuss the life and works of Child and why this collection became such an important work when compared to other collections. I will also play some recordings of ballads that were included in Volume 1.

TRADITIONS can be heard Sunday afternoons from 3 to 6pm in the NYC area at 89.1FM. You can also listen in via the internet through our website at www.wfdu.fm.

Hope you can join us!

Ron Olesko Producer/Host WFDU-FM's TRADITIONS

Thanks Ron, that's one I'd like to hear, especially since there is an Internet broadcast.

Also, in the Louisville area (WFPK), the Homefront Series will start broadcasting archived programs on Wednesdays at 8 pm. I don't think there is an Internet version though.

Ron,

Any hints as to which part of your 3 hour programme I should listen to for this stuff?

I can't sit and listen for three hours. She won't let me!

Hi Jon and Welcome to the 'Cat......

There are a lot of net radio programs (Ron's is always excellent) and you need REal Player to get them. WFDU has a good page regarding how to listen on the wweb. Just CLICK HERE for the WFDU website and then look for the "Listen on the Web" (or however it's labeled) and go for it!!!

You can also go back and listen to archived broadcasts of our own "Mudcat Radio."

Spaw

Thanks Spaw!

To listen to WFDU you need Microsoft's Window's Media Player, which is available for a free download. I believe it now comes "standard" with new PC's. I don't think Real Player works with our streaming audio, but I could be wrong.

The Child Ballad portion of the show will air at 5pm Eastern time.

Ron

coolness! I'll be listening!

(I love the 'Net! I get WFDU with more clarity through my 'puter speakers in Virginia than I did through my radio when I lived in NY!)
