Subject: RE: BS: Cleckheaton Folk festival From: Raggytash Date: 12 Jun 02 - 07:08 PM Hurrah, a chance to see some friendly faces again, the winter is such a long break from good music in the north. I'll alsohave to remind Abuwood to bring the sweat shirt and t shirt on order that were neglected from last year !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
Subject: RE: BS: Cleckheaton Folk festival From: IanN Date: 13 Jun 02 - 02:58 AM Don't forget there's the Middlewich Festival this weekend too!!!!!!!
|
Subject: RE: BS: Cleckheaton Folk festival From: English Jon Date: 13 Jun 02 - 05:27 AM Middlewich is also to be a cultural event, so to speak. Have packed car up, and got to work, and then realised I've forgotten Duvet. Bugger. The cat is asleep on the passenger seat, he sends his regarrrrrrds. Only trouble with Cleckheaton is that I'm likely to go to the pub and then spend about four thousand pounds that I don't have in the music shop next door!!! See you on Friday folks! Cheers EJ (+C)

Subject: RE: BS: Cleckheaton Folk festival From: vectis Date: 13 Jun 02 - 06:17 AM For the southerners there's the First Travelling Folk Song and Ale at Magham Down in East Sussex The same weekend. It's for singers, dancers, players, poets and audience. Something for everyone. Camping, pub (Harveys ales) and hall all on the same site. North or south there's always somewhere to go to avoid mowing the lawn at weekends. |

|
Subject: RE: BS: Cleckheaton Folk festival From: Mrs.Duck Date: 02 Jul 02 - 06:04 PM I may be thick but having looked at my tickets and the website I can't find anywhere that tells me where the campsite is. Does anyone know and could they give a map reference. Also does anyone know if we can put the caravan on site before we get our tickets or do we have to park the van outside the townhall? Alternatively Geoff could call into the office earlier in the day if we knew what time it opened. Also the compliment slip that came with our ticket showed the office as the organiser's home address - I wonder how many people turn up on their front step expecting tickets etc.! I expect we'll give Geoff Pickles a ring but it would have been useful to have had the info. |
Subject: RE: BS: Cleckheaton Folk festival From: Manitas_at_home Date: 03 Jul 02 - 04:27 AM Last time I went I thought people were camping at the end of the road the town hall was in, very close to it. |
Subject: RE: BS: Cleckheaton Folk festival From: GUEST,MC Fat Date: 03 Jul 02 - 10:03 AM Will be there on Saturday & Sunday but I'm going to be a complete wuss and do the B&B bit. Is the Wickham still the best place for sing-a-rounds or is there owt good else. |
Subject: RE: BS: Cleckheaton Folk festival From: Pied Piper Date: 03 Jul 02 - 11:27 AM Hi folks. Are their any tune sessions on Sunday lunchtime? I'm thinking of getting the train from Manchester. All the best PP. |
Subject: RE: BS: Cleckheaton Folk festival From: Eric the Viking Date: 03 Jul 02 - 01:20 PM The campsite is about 1 and 1/2 miles out of town, by the swimming pool-but there is a bus, I believe. Session in the commercial on Saturday pm, and outside the Wickham at several other times (not if it's persisting it down!) Sing arounds inside the Wickham at all hours of the day and night. Don't yet know about a sunday session, but most likely to be outside the Wickham. Cheers |

Subject: RE: BS: Cleckheaton Folk festival From: Liz the Squeak Date: 04 Jul 02 - 01:14 AM Cleckheaton, like Brigadoon, only appears for a few hours each year. It's a part of Huddersfield, but closer than that isn't revealed until you get there..... (it's marked on most maps... you can only see it sometimes though.....) It's got a lovely town hall. I think. It also has Eric the Viking and a whole moor full of sheep within riding distance..... be afraid... be very afraid...... PM Ned Ludd, he may be able to help you with directions, as he has a better sense of where he is than I do (directional talents of a dead stoat, me!). I'd guess from Hull, go to Huddersfield and turn left. I have to do the second star to the right and straight on til morning thing - which usually gets me to Newport Pagnell, even if I was aiming for Cornwall. I made it to Sheffield once.... just the once...... LTS |
Subject: RE: BS: Cleckheaton Folk festival From: Rt Revd Sir jOhn from Hull Date: 04 Jul 02 - 01:36 AM Thanks Liz, I will maybe see you there, though I am not sure wether my current car will make it ( I am driving a heap of crap Lada nowadays, and it only just made it to Beverley, 5 miles up the road!) so I might get a bus or hitch-hike. |
Subject: RE: BS: Cleckheaton Folk festival From: Abuwood Date: 04 Jul 02 - 04:26 AM Will have to miss you guys as we are booked to dance in Dudley, Sorry Raggytash I have been carrying your gear around with me for a year and now I am going to miss you! Subject: RE: BS: Cleckheaton Folk festival From: Dave the Gnome Date: 04 Jul 02 - 04:05 PM The Gnome will not be there unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your point of view...) There will however be two secret mudcatters, diguised as half of Feet in Mouths, there on Saturday. Not sure where though. Maybe that too is secret??? Watch for loot, pillage and the handing out of Swinton Festival posters amongst all the other goings on and the walk up and resolutely say 'You are the secret mudcatters and I claim my quarter pound of black lace panties' and then see what happens. If they deny all knowledge it must be them! Good luck all and have fun. Well, have something at least. Cheers Dave the Gnome |
Subject: RE: BS: Cleckheaton Folk festival From: Col K Date: 04 Jul 02 - 05:24 PM As said the camp site is by the swimming pool cum sports centre. Leave M62 at Jcn 26 follow signs to Clecky about two miles. Town Hall on left hand side of road camp site about a mile further on, on right hand side of road, it WILL be signed. When you get to camp site report to camp site workers/bosses whatever you want to call them, give them a/some beer and they will be happy to direct you to a place to put yor tent. Guess who is doing the campsite this year? OK Tis me!!! Everything will be OK there just hope the weather is good to us campers, See you there Col.K |

Subject: RE: BS: Cleckheaton Folk festival From: Noreen Date: 04 Jul 02 - 08:04 PM If you see someone in a Shellback Chorus sweatshirt/poloshirt/t-shirt (depending on weather) on the mean streets of Cleckhuddersfax, follow them- they'll lead you to a great singaround, or at the very least a pub... See y'all soon! And I've got something interesting for you, Eric... :0) Noreen |
Subject: RE: BS: Cleckheaton Folk festival From: Mr Happy Date: 05 Jul 02 - 05:46 AM talking to a mate last night, he said the campsite is prone to flooding- do i need to take[bring] precautions? |
Subject: RE: BS: Cleckheaton Folk festival From: GUEST,Mike Cahill Date: 05 Jul 02 - 01:39 PM In the past when the weather has been damp, thay have tried to keep caravans, and motorhomes and cars on the hard standing of the pool car park because the exit to the site is up a 20degree sloap (sp?) it very quickly becomes a mud slide. Believe me it has been damp round here the past few days! |
Subject: RE: BS: Cleckheaton Folk festival From: harpmaker Date: 05 Jul 02 - 02:49 PM We have not got tickets, will we be able to to come over and stay on the campsite in our campervan? Will it cost? |
Subject: RE: BS: Cleckheaton Folk festival From: nutty Date: 05 Jul 02 - 04:11 PM Harpmaker .... you can usually stay in the car park behind the Town Hall if you are self contained but you need to get there relatively early to get a flat spot as the car park is on a slope. I've done this a number of times and never had a problem. |
Subject: RE: BS: Cleckheaton Folk festival From: Liz the Squeak Date: 07 Jul 02 - 04:07 PM Well Bratling and I had a wonderful time, so busy with my particular dance team that I never actually saw any of the festival (booked from 10.30 to 4.00 with only 2 1/2 hr breaks, used to get from venue to venue.... After that (having got to bed at 3.30am, and woken up by a frog at 6.00am....), was too tired to do anything but go back and fill my head with green goop. Managed to hear the Shellbacks though, they were outside the pub opposite the Town Hall whilst I was sitting in the car park behind the Town Hall (drooling over a Triumph Bonneville)! What do you mean you didn't see us?? Geoff and Mrs Duck did.... I was with the Biggest Morris Dance team in the country.... their newest member won his baldricks at another venue today.... LTS |
Subject: RE: BS: Cleckheaton Folk festival From: Mrs.Duck Date: 07 Jul 02 - 06:12 PM That's right I saw Liz and her baldricks!! A great weekend and not even one raindrop!!!! |
Subject: RE: BS: Cleckheaton Folk festival From: Ned Ludd Date: 07 Jul 02 - 06:49 PM Great weekend but I've got to go to work to recover. Glad you made it back all right liz! The frog is pining a bit though! |
Subject: Cleckheaton From: little spiky Date: 08 Jul 02 - 01:43 PM Hello! Was anyone at Cleckheaton this weekend? Hope you had as good a time as we did! Bless the weather for not being as abismal as it promised on Friday! p.s. did anyone on the campsite find a shoe on Sunday morning? My friend managed to lose one of his at the end of Saturday night. I didn't really like to ask, but I just wondered if anyone had picked it up! Cheers Midears! ( - : Messages from multiple threads combined. |
