Carolynne and I are going to Tas for a break arriving Hobart Fri evening 12/7 dep sun morn 21/7 Yes I know not long enough. but needs must. What's happening where?

Do you know what there is between Tasmania and the Antarctic? Roy Orbison, that's what.

They are really nice people, though, despite the two heads.

Hrothgar, this could be a bit embarrassing, but, not only do I have distant EnZed rellies, I also have quite close Taswegian rellies ... (still, we Sandgropers always were a little different - that's why we've tried to secede from the rest of Oz 3 times in the country's short white history!!!)

Beth is probably the handiest (certainly the easiest) contact for this ... Mike,Mick & Beth are all up in the north ... but Beth should know what's going on for the whole isle. (Actually, if you were crossing the Bass Strait by the Spirit of Tasmania ferry, you might bump into Mick stewarding on the boat ... but I presume that you are flying ... ?)

I had some good sessions down the Huon Valley (below Hobart) in ebruary ... maybe that's where the indigent folkies head , for the cheaper living (a bit like the Blue Mts, vis a vis Sydney).

Listen Ted, sit down fer a coupla minutes and cool yer fevered brow.... Then go see your GP, or better yet, your shrink. It might not be too late. Medication's a wonderful thing these days. But if you must travel south, fer gawd's sake, geroff the plane at Brissie and spend a couple of weeks in a climate that won't be too..... well, not to put too fine a point on it... British. We've got music round here, and it'll be warmer than having yer socks freeze to yer feet.

I have been hopelessly indoctrinated by Monty Python. Whenever I get a chance to get away from the tropical paradise that is Cairns, into my bewilderd brain swirls the imperitave command "NOW FOR SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT" (my last break (10 years ago I went to England and Canada for XMAS. I expect Tas to be quite mild) BTW why does anyone live in Bris - It's neither chalk nor cheese.Even if the music may be great ;-)> Come on up and see us sometime.

Tassie - a top spot anytime of the year.
Great beer and the world's best cider and vegetables that still taste like vegetables. And wonderful oily baked mutton birds and honey to kill for and curried sea scallops that you'd sell the wife for and - and - and don't go there if you are watching your waistline.

Ah ... you've just explained what I couldn't explain earlier this morning. I was looking over my medical record with my GP and she noted that my blood sugar levels, declining nicely since I was diagnosed with mild Type 2 diabetes early last year - and buckled down to dietary and exercise improvements, were back up over 8.0 when last tested ... March 2002.

Now, I had spent the previous month roaming around Tasmania, visiting in-laws and enjoying the local provender ... Oh well, back to The GI Book (Diabetes Australia's bible) and the 6 km walk home every night. (And plan next year's holidays for somewhere less tasty!)
