Right, I'm back. OK Q1 was indeed New York, for Engine 33(song by our very own InObu as far as I remember) via Engine 143(George Alley's, Carter family). Well solved, collective effort. As Noreen says, youve got to figure out the theme for yourself, but given that its beenpointed out that RB Quiz stood for Round Britain Quiz, I think you can work it out prettyeasy. Have a look at a chart and youll soon do them all. Never mind Canaan, we've got to Promised Land as part of the clue. And it is a musical quiz. And regarding tune, moonand croon. Well I see peoplehave been busy with the old computer searches, but Moonlight Bay and By the Light of the S M it aint. It's in the old Digitrad thing, but I dont know how good the index/search facilities are there. Remeber its on the way to Baltimore( you have to check the correct answersin this quiz, they may help you a lot to the next one.

How about "Jordan's stormy banks" as a refinement of Promised Land/Canaan for 4?

No. 5, a piece of cake: Take My Hand, Precious Lord, Georgia Tom. Who became saved and was the Father of Gospel. If you don't believe it, he'd tell you. A great old character if ever there was one. If you ever get a chance to see Say Amen, Someone!, do. It is a delightful documentary about Thomas Dorsey and the start of gospel music. He also wrote I Was Standing By The Bedside of a Neighbor. So, how come Masato or Dicho didn't get this in the first twenty seconds? They're the ones who are really knowledgeable about gospel...

Well, the thing is there's a theme to this quiz. It's called RA Quiz, and its the follow up to the RB Quiz which as pointed out recently stood for Round Britain Quiz.(sorry, an awful lot of quizzes in that sentence). And I'm not sure that Canaan's Land could be made to fit that theme. And also. the question says "he didnt start from here". Maybe somebody else did start from here, looking for the P L??

And how about a recap from the other end? Here are the questions yet unanswered:

2: Tune, spoon and moon and female company (en route to 3).
[4:Bearded Charlton Heston saw it but never made it, but then he didnt start from here.]
5: "Take my hand" Tom might have sung to his slidy un-saved partner, who came from where?
13: Ultimate destination of 4.
14: Animal, vegetable and mineral: very desirable mineral, very friendly animals, very pretty vegetable coiffeur.
15:River came noisily down a Spanish sounding valley, then met the saline ebb and flow, but where exactly?
18: James Gordon got a bit chilly hereabouts.
20: Brave ship's boss knocking back the biscuity liqueur here. 21: Nice to ask this one again.

No Jerry, youre only half way there. The question. asked where his slidy un-saved partner came from. So I'm afraid the answer is not Georgia.Georgia Tom was not slidy and he was saved.

There can never be too many quizzes in a sentence, Greg! ;-)

Okay, so RA means "Round the Americas", eh?

Then 2) is somewhere in Indiana?

Well, I'm not a total geographical expert,Liland, but is Indiana between (1) New York and (3) Baltimore? I'd sort of imagined it was up the top in the middle.

Good point, I was trying to remember where "By the light of the silvery moon" was set. Granted, not en route from New York to Baltimore unless you're lost.

Now, if 4 had been the Jordan, 13 would've been the Dead Sea, but what part of the Americas did bearded Ch. Heston ever see? Hmm.

Course youre not wrong Jeri, its Norfolk Virginia, naturally. Dont see why W Virginia is sick, but its certainly wrong. Now if he started in Norfolk Viginia, where is his ultimate destination...thats the answer for q13.

Liland, your confused.Norfolk Virginia, is the answer to question 4, so it doesnt have to be between New York and Baltimore. The first 4 answers, all now completed, go
New York
Chesapeake Bay
Baltimore
Norfolk Virginia
I m pretty confident that is an OK order for a trip round the coast of America.

By the way, I used the word biscuity in Q20, being a Brit. That probably should be cookie-like for Americans tackling the quiz.

O.k., Greg: Have to think about that, and pull out my Georgia Tom stuff. Georgia Tom was as slidy as they get. Thomas Dorsey was saved, and left old Tom back in the Juke Joints. I'm heading down to New York City for the day, so I'll have to look at this further when I get back..:-)

We just posted simultaneously, Jeri. Come on, give us your answer to q5. Everybody uses searches on these quizzes. though I have tried to make ita bit difficult by using a lot of synonyms and avoiding direct quotes from songs generally! Search away as you like, anyone, lets get this finished!

Tampa it is. that gives you 4 points, jeri. Now,I must apologise for a slightly misleading bit in Q20. "liqueur" should more accurately be "sweet dessert wine": though the spoken intro to the Kingston Trio recording did refer to"liqueur".

18 might be Frobisher Bay, just because James Gordon wrote it and it sounds pretty darned cold.

And 21 might be New York, or it might be New York, New York, or it might not.

20...Kingston? (Somehow, I think that's too easy.)

How about a hint on 14? Vegetable coiffeur indeed! My mind works in mysterious ways (that it works at all is even more mysterious) but I'm completely lost - especially on that "vegetable coiffeur" bit.

Frobisher bay and New York, New York it is.Jeri.Youre heading for that prize. But not Kingston, no sir, I merely mentioned the Kinngston Trio because they sang the relevant song and mentioned the drink concerned in the intro: and a search on the name of the drink would get you straight to the placename on the Digitrd, because I just tried! As to "pretty vegetable coiffeur", I was using vegetable in the sense of "opposed to animal", not as in carrots and potatoes.Come on solve these last few quick, cos I'l have to start a part III if this gets to 40 messages. another hint: Woody Guthrie hasnt turned up yet in the answers so far, but he's up in the north-west somewhere.

Bonneville is a bit far in land for the "Round America Quiz). But just run your finger further upstream from the Bonneville Dam(if youre looking at a map!)and you will quickly find the Woody guthrie song that will lead you to the place I'm looking for(though its not mentioend in the song). As to Madeira: sorry. Wrong drink. And the drink is not the name of the place, theyare both mentioned in the same song. And howabout Q14, come on its easy.Except I've just realised I made a seriuosly misleading spelling mistake. Its COIFFURE.OK desirable mineral at your feet, friendly animals, and coiffure involving pretty vegatable matter.

I suppose geographically 20 could be Halifax as we head back to NYC, NYC, but I don't think of it as a liqueur or a dessert wine. (Got there via Montego Bay.)

Spot on Liland Astoria it is. I was tellng Jeri look upstream from Bonneville to find the Grand Coulee Dam, because thats the Woodt song with the line about the Columbia River heading down the canyon to meet the salty tide. An I'll give you Halifax because it's right, though God knowshow you got there. Go on, someone explain why Halifax is the answer to Q20.
Only one left to do now, and its between Los Angeles and Astoria.
