Subject: Naked Bicyclists - gotta go! From: Haruo Date: 22 Jun 02 - 02:20 PM About 45 minutes till the start of the 31st annual Fremont [Seattle] Fair Solstice Parade, which includes as a famous attraction (or repulsion) guerrilla bands of naked bicyclists (or nearly naked; sometimes they sport a fair amount of green body paint). Gotta shower, clothe myself so I don't get taken for one of them, figure out where I put my camera, and walk the one block from my domicile to the parade route. I think Dusty Strings is having some kind of get-together this weekend, maybe I'll go to it. I'll be in touch. Liland |

Now it's too late and I've missed the show. Rats! Genie BTW, we in Portland [Troutdale, anyway] had our own famous-for-15-minutes nude bicyclist. Lindsey Richter, who was on "Survivor Africa" had sent CBS a videotape of herself riding a bicycle sans any duds but a bit o' body paint, as part of her bid to be on the show. The network then proceeded to air a good bit of her audition tape [with a couple of naughty parts big-pixeled out] a few times for the national audience. |

There was much footage of the parade: lot's of kids, families, floats and fun. They mentioned how Summer doesn't really start in Seattle until the Fremont Festival. I saw pictures of stilt walkers, dancers, folks in costumes ... and then came the NAKED BICYLE RIDERS. They were on camera for perhaps 4 seconds. But, I was VERY impressed by one commentary that KING 5 NEWS slipped in. They filmed an interview with a viewer who said: "Couldn't ask for better weather. It brings out all the nuts!" In fact, there are those who maintain that Fremont IS a barrel of monkeys!! Where else would one find an actual troll under an actual bridge? Not an internet twit style troll, but a genuine, traditional, billy goat harassing troll? Under the north end of the Aurora Avenue bridge in Fremont (not under the 1-90 bridge as some tourist-oriented website erroneously states). Fremont has it's own mayor. He sits here, with a number of others, "Waiting for the Interurban." These are only two of the many phenomena that one can gaze upon and ponder. I live on Capitol Hill in Seattle, but I could happily live in the Fremont District. It has just about everything a folkie—or anyone but the walking dead—could want. Dusty Strings, where John Peekstok works is right there on the corner of N. 34th Street and Fremont Avenue N., and within a minute or two's walk, one finds the Wit's End Bookstore and Tea Shop and the Still Life Coffeehouse. Both of these establishments host open mikes, on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings respectively. All this, and nude bicyclists, too! If you're ever in Seattle, or even if you're already here, here's a website that gives little history of the area and shows you how to find it. Seattle's Fremont District is a Mudcat kinda place. The owner (?) of Wit's End told me recently that they no longer have an open mike except one for songwriters on Tuesdays. They do, however, have several jam sessions on Fridays. Fourth Friday is Scandinavian, third Friday is bluegrass, one of the other two is Celtic, and I forget what the other is. A great place Fremont is, indeed! Genie |

He's only clearly visible coming up a steep hill on a rather minor side street (Aurora Ave N, elsewhere one of Seattle's biggest and busiest streets, but that all where the bridge begins). On the other hand, there's a lot of pedestrian traffic around the troll, and the street (N 36th St) that passes in front of him (I know, I'm being sexist, we don't know for sure it's a he troll) is sometimes the locus of inordinately speedy driving, so it wouldn't surprise me to learn a few folks afoot have been hospitalized by surprised motorists who never even saw the troll. From: Haruo Date: 24 Jun 02 - 02:47 AM Well, after starting this thread I succeeded in dillydallying around at home until the parade was almost over, so I ended up not seeing any of the bicyclists this year (there were also a fair number of ladies wearing only thongs and paint but sans bicyclettes, I'm told, but I missed them, too). So I can't say for sure (and don't recall from years past) what if anything the gentleman cyclists do to guard their balls. Whatever I might suggest would be pure speculation. This evening, though, as the fair closed, I scored big. Next to the church's booth was an organic farm booth that had been giving away fruit and veggies all day, and as they prepared to close I asked if they wanted the cauliflower I was eyeing covetously, and the fellow said by all means take it and take all the rest of that stuff too. So I ended up with a cauliflower, two kiwi fruits (Chinese gooseberries), a bermuda onion, four yellow onions, a bunch of scallions, three cloves of garlic, a peach, a canteloupe, six new potatoes, a dozen small red potatoes, three oranges, some red chard, four plums, and a partridge in a pear tree (kidding; but it felt like it). All certified organic, and all except the rather wilted chard absolutely gorgeous. I actually prefer vegetables over naked gentlemen on bicycles almost any day. Liland |

If you don't have a valid licence they can send you to jail for 6 months.(I am not joking about this,it's true!), but they cannot enter your property without a search warrant, so don't let them in. |
