Just listened to Mayall's version on a Hard Road and it goes (it's in F):

Intro:

No chord (C implied)
F D Gm C7 F Bb F C

            F (F Bb/F F) F             (F Bb/F) F7
I've got to ride          that lonesome train.
Bb   (Bb Eb/Bb Bb) Bb             Fdim (move shape up guitar in lots of 3!)
My heart is heavy             with aches and pain,
    F                D            Gm    C7         F    Bb F   C7
But someday, someday, baby, after awhile, you'll be sorry.

Ev'ry day my clouds are gray.
Wind change, it'll roll all my clouds away,
But someday, someday, baby, after awhile, you'll be sorry.

F7 into bridge

Bb (Bb Eb/Bb Bb)       Bb (Bb Eb/Bb Bb)
Trouble, trouble          on my mind
         F (F Bb/F F)                F (F Bb/F Bb)
Trouble, trouble,       way down the line,
       G (G C/G G)       G (G C/G G)
I don't need          no sympathy,
    C7
So, baby, baby, don't you pity me.

I may be blue but I don't mind,
'Cause I know way down the line,
Someday, someday, baby, after awhile, you'll be sorry.

In some versions people play an augmented C7 rather than a straight one - either works

SOMEDAY AFTER A WHILE was written by Freddie King.

There are videos at YouTube by Eric Clapton and several lesser talents.

Is this NOT the black gospel, "After Awhile"?

I'm having a bit of trouble working out a chord sequence for Someday After Awhile, a dramatic slow blues which appeared on an early Mayall album, was I think previously recorded by one of the Kings, and is a sequence often used by BB King... it appears to use several minor passing chords as part of the main verse pattern.

I've tried several blues websites, and have only come across some bitter arguments between guitarists as to the song structure... but they never actually give the full thing, so I'm no farther forward.

I've got a super tab transcripton of Clapton's solo which scares the **** out of me just looking at it, but a decent chord sequence still eludes me.

Help, anyone?!

Thanks!
