Subject: RE: BS: Songroom open now..... From: cyder_drinker Date: 23 Jun 02 - 02:22 PM I'm there but I can't talk for some reason. Maybe it's the old paltalk update syndrome. I'll try and fix it... |

Subject: RE: BS: Songroom open now..... From: Liz the Squeak Date: 23 Jun 02 - 04:58 PM About to be bounced (2 hours is up) so thanks everyone who sang, esp. Bradfordian who kept going for half an hour on his own (I was looking for something for him)!! Next week? About 2.00pm USA time, 7.00pm UK time. LTS |
Subject: RE: Songroom open now..... From: katlaughing Date: 23 Jun 02 - 05:02 PM Thanks, LtS, for doing this. I am sorry I couldn't make it, today. Will try next Sunday. |

Subject: RE: Songroom open now..... From: Haruo Date: 23 Jun 02 - 05:38 PM Liz, when you say "USA time" what part of the country are you referring to? Our lower 48 states cross 4 time zones, with the Atlantic seaboard in "Eastern Time", the Mississippi Valley in "Central Time", the Rocky Mountains in "Mountain Time" and the Pacific coast in "Pacific Time" (Alaska and Hawaii are another story). Canada has the same zones we have plus a bit more on the eastern fringe. My tendency when I see a European talk about "USA time" is to assume ET, but I'm never sure. Liland |
Subject: RE: Songroom open now..... From: MMario Date: 23 Jun 02 - 06:29 PM based on her UK time that would be "Standard Mudcat Time" - or Eastern. |
Subject: RE: Songroom open now..... From: Liz the Squeak Date: 24 Jun 02 - 02:34 AM Yep, Mudcat time. sorry, migriane, cna't see str5aignt LTS |
Subject: RE: Songroom open now..... From: Haruo Date: 24 Jun 02 - 02:37 AM The other problem is the thread name. Once the songroom closes a new thread should be started so the uninitiated (like me, yesterday when I first saw the thread) aren't misled into thinking the "Songroom [is] open now". Liland |
Subject: RE: Songroom open now..... From: Liz the Squeak Date: 24 Jun 02 - 02:40 AM That clogs up the system with an unnecessary thread that might just gett missed if alot of people are posting at eh same time. LTS |
Subject: RE: Songroom open now..... From: Haruo Date: 24 Jun 02 - 02:51 AM I think you're probably right, Liz, but then maybe the thread should read "Songroom open 02.06.23 x:00 - y:00 GMT" or something? I'm not trying to make it more difficult much less create extra threads, but I do recall frantically trying to get my mike working only to discover the room had closed before I started being frantic. ;-( Liland |
Subject: RE: Songroom open now..... From: Liz the Squeak Date: 24 Jun 02 - 02:51 PM Sorry dear, OK that's a good idea. If I remember I shall put the times up when I open. If I open at 7.00pm GMT, 2.00pm Standard Mudcat Time, I get bounced whether I like it or not 2 hours later, at 9.00/4.00. If there are people in the room and I can get back in, or there's another admin in the room, then it's OK to extend for another 2 hours till 11.00/6.00pm. After that, it's getting a bit late for the UKers who have work the next day. If there is no-one in the room after an hour or at 9.00 when I bounce, then I'll close it and not open again. Anyone with an admin hat can open the room, but only certain people can make it a lockable room. The open room is fine, but you get the odd person looking in who might get a bit obnoxious. An admin hat wearer is the only one who can red dot (block) a nuisance or bounce someone out of the room. Hope to see you there sometime.... LTS (the migraine is better, at least I can see straight now...) |
Subject: RE: Songroom open now..... From: IvanB Date: 24 Jun 02 - 06:52 PM Liz, to my knowledge, a 'locked' room has to be designated as that when the owner first signs up for the name. Mudcat Song Circle has never been a locked room. I do agree with you that an administrator should always be present when the room is open, to keep order when the occasional abrasive 'straggler' happens through. Most visitors, if they find the room not to their liking, just leave quietly, but there are a few exceptions. One other point: only a person acting as an administrator can open the room. Once it's open, the administrator could leave and the room would still remain open as long as there were people in it. However, I'm not really in favor of that approach, for the reasons outlined above. Probably Norton1, as the owner of the room, should make the rules, but, absent any instruction from him to the contrary, if were the admin and had to leave, I'd close the room if nobody else wanted to take over admin duties. And, for the benefit of those who might question how one gets admin rights, it merely means entering the room as an admin, which requires having a 4 digit passcode. Any admin can give someone else the code, but I prefer to have Norton1 do it, as it's technically his room. |
Subject: RE: Songroom open now..... From: allie kiwi Date: 24 Jun 02 - 07:01 PM Due to time differences, I have yet to get online at the same time as the room being open. Just saw this thread title and logged onto pal talk straight away. Drat!! Oh, well, maybe next week! Laughing at my silly self here. Allie |

Subject: RE: Songroom from Sunday 23rd June..... From: Liz the Squeak Date: 25 Jun 02 - 01:10 AM The thing is, it was titled "now", because it was now then. Usually this thread drops off by midnight 'Cat time, so it isn't bothering anyone... in future I shall date them. It's only because people keep posting to it, that it's survived. Trouble is, I can't change it once it's been posted. The Snug room was always locked, and required a password to get in, and sometimes the song circle was too, because the password was dt. Any admin with the code can open, but only Norton1 as owner can lock it. We are quite short of people most nights, but admins are even rarer, so it's usually me or Cyder_drinker, and if his sound and audio have gone, there's little point in him being there (his words). Subject: RE: Songroom open now..... From: cyder_drinker Date: 25 Jun 02 - 11:54 AM I'm happy to open the room, regardless of my audio status (I've managed to fix it now!), but I have to be at the PC to do it! It's a busy time of year, unfortunately, and I don't get as much time in fromt of the screen as I do in the winter. If I remember right, the password for the old "snug" was dt. Does that ever still open? Trouble with a locked room is you can only get 10 people in it, which was why Norton1 created the song circle room. To get admin rights for the song circle room (which, as far as I'm aware can't be locked and requires no password) you need the code from Norton1 - and I think he has to add you to his pal list as well. Any admin can close the room instantly - just use the admin console from the "admin" menu bar. Once the room has been closed, a short message on the end of the current "paltalk room open now" thread should suffice to let catters know the room has closed. |
Subject: RE: Songroom open now..... From: Liz the Squeak Date: 25 Jun 02 - 01:23 PM Which is what I thought I did, but reading back, the migraine had started to kick in and I didn't actually put we were closed, just that I was being bounced (I'd already told the room that when I bounced I wouldn't be back) not that I was going. Sorry. LTS |
