Subject: RE: BS: Life expectancy quiz. From: MMario Date: 24 Jun 02 - 02:05 PM Health/Life expectancy quiz says I'll get to 84 - despite being an overweight smoker who doesn't take vitamins, asperin or excercise. |
Subject: RE: BS: Life expectancy quiz. From: Rt Revd Sir jOhn from Hull Date: 24 Jun 02 - 02:14 PM Yippee! it says I will live to be 64, no need to bother with a pension then! We retire at 65 in the UK. Best news I've had all day! |
Subject: RE: BS: Life expectancy quiz. From: Rt Revd Sir jOhn from Hull Date: 24 Jun 02 - 02:15 PM PS. Whats a bologna sandwich? |
Subject: RE: BS: Life expectancy quiz. From: MMario Date: 24 Jun 02 - 02:26 PM "bologna" or "baloney" is a highly processed "lunchmeat" - common and cheap in the US. definition most people dont consider it to be actual food, edible, or healthy. |
Subject: RE: BS: Life expectancy quiz. From: Liz the Squeak Date: 24 Jun 02 - 02:30 PM I make it to 79.6.... already over halfway there.... boo hooo!!! Mind you, if the next 30 years are as bad as the last one, I don't think I want to get THAT far!! LTS |
Subject: RE: BS: Life expectancy quiz. From: vectis Date: 24 Jun 02 - 04:14 PM 82.4 plenty of time to learn those songs I've been meaning to learn. |
Subject: RE: BS: Life expectancy quiz. From: Kim C Date: 24 Jun 02 - 04:20 PM I got 93.6. Some of the questions didn't really apply, though... my mother is still alive and only just now turning 70. If she stays the way she is, though, she ain't going to need any assistance. I did have three immediate family members with diabetes, but two of them are dead now. I have to confess, I do love bologna! Must be on white bread with Miracle Whip. I rarely eat it these days, though. But --- the Oscar-Meyer Lite and Fat-Free varieties are VERY good. I love hot dogs too, but they usually make my head hurt. We tried the Ball Park Turkey dogs, and they're really good too. |
Subject: RE: BS: Life expectancy quiz. From: GUEST,Ian Date: 24 Jun 02 - 04:24 PM Before anyone put's any great store in the results, note that the purpose of the survey is to try to get you to buy a book... It is in no way scientifically accurate, or even approaching it. Caveat Emptor Ian |
Subject: RE: BS: Life expectancy quiz. From: CarolC Date: 24 Jun 02 - 04:26 PM Or we could get hit by a bus. Still, 90.4, and I don't even exercise regularly. I don't mind that. Gives me a positive outlook on my prospects for longevity. Maybe that phsychological boost, alone, will helpe me to live longer. |
Subject: RE: BS: Life expectancy quiz. From: dorareever Date: 24 Jun 02 - 06:12 PM 88! I don't need so much TIME! Wait...maybe I do.No excercise, alot of sweets,second-hand smoke,not handling stress....and I'll live to 88! |
Subject: RE: BS: Life expectancy quiz. From: Bardford Date: 24 Jun 02 - 06:26 PM 89. That gives me 47 years to learn this fiddle. Also, if I shave a stroke a year off my golf game, I should be able to qualify for the seniors tour by age 82 or 83.

Subject: RE: BS: Life expectancy quiz. From: Bill D Date: 24 Jun 02 - 10:36 PM 87.6 years,...guess red meat doesn't hurt much... (never smoked and drink only moderately and NEVER had a cholesterol problem)...maybe I'll fool 'em and make 99.. |
Subject: RE: BS: Life expectancy quiz. From: Lepus Rex Date: 24 Jun 02 - 10:46 PM 74.4?! I (truthfully) answered TONS of the right "dead by 40" questions, and I'll live to be 74? God, I hope not. I'll be in REALLY bad shape by then, heh. That's it: Tomorrow, I start smoking/drinking/tanning/drinking coffee/charring meat. Woo! ---Lepus Rex |
Subject: RE: BS: Life expectancy quiz. From: Jim Krause Date: 24 Jun 02 - 10:56 PM Well I'll live to be 87. Only thing is, while I don't smoke cigarettes, never have, I do like a cigar once or twice a day. And a glass of wine with supper really makes a meal. Jim |
Subject: RE: BS: Life expectancy quiz. From: Bobert Date: 24 Jun 02 - 10:56 PM Well, first time I took the quiz I was gonna live until 103 or until I dropped. So I took it with my left hand and came out 2 years dead and gone. So I flipped and coin, lost 2 out of three, so guess Iz been gone fir a while, which is a purdy darned good excuse for any posts my ghost might have made for which I'd now have to say, ahhhhh, "Sorry". So....sorry... Think I'll take it again to see if it's worth going to bed. Bobert |
Subject: RE: BS: Life expectancy quiz. From: Jim Krause Date: 24 Jun 02 - 11:02 PM Hey Lepus, c'mon over buddy and we can smoke us some real good seegars, drink coffe, and beer, pick a few tunes while the brats are burning on the grill. Jim |
Subject: RE: BS: Life expectancy quiz. From: Bill D Date: 24 Jun 02 - 11:07 PM no beer, no charred burgers, no wine, no coffee.... that's not LIVING anyway! |
Subject: RE: BS: Life expectancy quiz. From: Steve Latimer Date: 24 Jun 02 - 11:13 PM Does anyone know any good estate lawyers?
|
Subject: RE: BS: Life expectancy quiz. From: Steve Latimer Date: 24 Jun 02 - 11:22 PM I went back and changed a few answers. Apparently flossing my teeth daily will prolong my life longer than quitting smoking. I'm off to have a smoke and a floss. |
Subject: RE: BS: Life expectancy quiz. From: Mudlark Date: 24 Jun 02 - 11:25 PM Whoa! 92!! That's almost 30 years...oy vay! Maybe I'll be able to manage a B minor yet, even full bar chords...the sky's the limit! Open tuning, here I come.... |
Subject: RE: BS: Life expectancy quiz. From: Jim Krause Date: 24 Jun 02 - 11:36 PM Yep, what's life without tobacco, caffeine, alcohol, and red meat? Why pretty soon, there'd be the end of the Folk Tradition as we know it. Just think of all those Uncle Dave Macon songs:
There are probably more. |
Subject: RE: BS: Life expectancy quiz. From: kendall Date: 24 Jun 02 - 11:53 PM According to my doctor, I'm in pretty good shape. Blood pressure 120/60 Cholesterol 211 triglyserides 204 H.D.L. 67 and LDL 101. I have an appointment on wednesday to see if the cancer is gone, and, either way, I'm going back to Johns-Hopkins to have a follow up exam. Think I'll plan on living a while longer; there's Old Songs, the Getaway, a performance with Gordon Bok and probably Dave Mallett. Yup, worth living for. |
Subject: RE: BS: Life expectancy quiz. From: catspaw49 Date: 24 Jun 02 - 11:56 PM I went past my age long ago. I can tell you though if I had ever believed when I was 20 that I would have lived even this long I would have taken better care of myself. I figure I can go another 20 or another 2 or maybe 30 or not at all........I just try to enjoy what I have while I have it. Spaw |
Subject: RE: BS: Life expectancy quiz. From: Amos Date: 25 Jun 02 - 12:13 AM You're in the groove, Spawman. Keep up the good stress-shedding and you'll sing us all under!! LOL!! A |
Subject: RE: BS: Life expectancy quiz. From: Catherine Jayne Date: 25 Jun 02 - 03:52 AM WOW apparently I am going to live til I'm 89.4 years old!!!! Role on the next 68 years!!!!! AAAARRRGGGGHHHH I can't imagine living THAT long! Oh well if I am happy and surrounded by people I care about (pretty much like now!) then I suppose I don't have a problem with that. Cat x |

Subject: RE: BS: Life expectancy quiz. From: allie kiwi Date: 25 Jun 02 - 06:47 AM 90.4 *grin*Maybe music makes the soul want to keep the body alive longer? But I have to admit guessing my weight. Any idea how many pounds in a kg? Or yet - I know how much I weigh in stone (8 stone 2) ... but what is that in pounds??

Subject: RE: BS: Life expectancy quiz. From: Hrothgar Date: 25 Jun 02 - 08:17 AM 86. That's a shame, because I wanted to shoot my age a golf, which would entail living to nearly 120. |
Subject: RE: BS: Life expectancy quiz. From: kendall Date: 25 Jun 02 - 09:01 AM a stone is 14 pounds, a kg is 2 pounds |
Subject: RE: BS: Life expectancy quiz. From: mack/misophist Date: 25 Jun 02 - 09:38 AM I've known a number of people in their 80's. Thank the stars I'm going to die young. |
Subject: RE: BS: Life expectancy quiz. From: SharonA Date: 25 Jun 02 - 01:53 PM 79.6 for me. Considering that my mother dropped dead of a massive heart attack a couple of months before her 80th birthday, that sounds about right. But waitaminnit... I only eat turkey bologna, not the nondescript stuff! Does that count as bologna? |
Subject: RE: BS: Life expectancy quiz. From: Jerry Rasmussen Date: 25 Jun 02 - 02:40 PM 91.4. I think there's been a mistake here. My Father died at 94, my Mother just celebrated her 95th birthday with 3 birthday parties, and just stopped driving this year... drove her Father's milk truck making deliveries at 13. I think that the youngest anyone has died on my Mother's side of the family (other than one of her brothers who was accidentally electrocuted) was 93 or 94. Same with my Grandparents who died well into their 90's, with the exception of my Mother's Mother who died on the operating table through gross negligence on the part of the surgeon. I just turned 67 and it is really weird to think that if I live a couple of years longer than my parents, I may still have a third of my life left. Personally, I can't take credit for any of it... Jerry |
Subject: RE: BS: Life expectancy quiz. From: Amergin Date: 25 Jun 02 - 03:07 PM Your life expectancy is 88.2 years LOL....it did not take into account things like depression...and other mental health related illnesses.. |
Subject: RE: BS: Life expectancy quiz. From: GUEST Date: 25 Jun 02 - 03:19 PM Great news! I should be around for decades after Lepus Rex is dead. I'm looking forward to a Lepus Rex-free planet. |
Subject: RE: BS: Life expectancy quiz. From: 53 Date: 25 Jun 02 - 03:49 PM Mine is 86.6 which ain't to bad these days and times. Bob |
Subject: RE: BS: Life expectancy quiz. From: The Walrus Date: 25 Jun 02 - 04:02 PM A life expectancy of 80.4 years (Should I book for early November 2036 now?) - that's not bad going, neither of my parents (nor many of my Mother's siblings) reached 65. What makes me think this test might be partially wishful thinking? Walrus |
Subject: RE: BS: Life expectancy quiz. From: Mrrzy Date: 25 Jun 02 - 04:02 PM I'll make it to over 90 and I don't lead a good life... yikes! But that's with grandparents of over 95... all I need to is avoid wars, I guess. Nobody in my family has died of natural causes at an age under 95 in at least 2 generations, but the Nazis knocked out most of Mom's side and terrorists got Dad... can bad luck run in families? |
Subject: RE: BS: Life expectancy quiz. From: Eric the Viking Date: 25 Jun 02 - 04:03 PM Bloody right about no accuacy-they don't know what I know! 87.5 years-I'll be bloody lucky! But I wouldn't mind, more time for music. |
Subject: RE: BS: Life expectancy quiz. From: Deda Date: 25 Jun 02 - 04:12 PM 88 plus -- but there are a number of questions missing, and I don't actually know my grandparents' ages when they died -- except my paternal grandmother was well into her 90s and quite senile -- but she lived on her own reasonably well and healthy until her late 80s. I could actually live to be a great-grandmother! And my kids will be saddled with supporting me, unless I start making more money and not dawdling around on the 'cat! |
Subject: RE: BS: Life expectancy quiz. From: Bat Goddess Date: 25 Jun 02 - 04:43 PM Jeez -- I came up at 94.6. And me on the wrong side of 200 lbs. But I take my vitamins, garlic & parsley tabs as well as E and selenium (taken together, by the way, and not at the same time as your other vitamins). Curmudgeon smokes, but he avoids it around me. Got some long-lived ancestors on Dad's side of the family -- probably makes up for the other side of the family. Life is stressful, but hey, I've learned to cope with that and come out smiling on the other side. Gardening, walking, and running around at my p/t job -- better than sweating over machines (though my free weights get lots of use). The most sedentary I get is typing away here at Mudcat or reading during a de-stressification bubble bath with my alloted margarita. (Hey, with all that vitamin C, cactus & lime juice, margaritas are health food, right?) Linn |
