Frieze, Contemporary Art & Culture, June, July August issue, #68, has a few interesting articles on Folk music, one on the re-release of various albums and a discussion of folk music in the 60's by Paul Lmabden, Bob Stanley and Jonny Trunk. They resurrect names of old British TV shows like Bagpuss, Clangers, Fingerbobs, Play School, films like Wicker

sorry, messed up something - to continue - Man & Kes, artists like Shirley Collins, Vashti Bunyan, Anne Briggs, Dave & Toni Arthur, Barry Dransfield. An Article b y Aubry Powell on folk music album cover art, a story about Nick Drake's poncho, etc. interesting, would love to hear more from you UK 'Catters re: such like. What do you remember of these folks, shows, etc.?

Can you explain a bit more about "Frieze, Contemporary Art & Culture"

I've never heard of it, but am doubtless displaying my ignorance.

A short explanation (for me at least) would be helpful.

Thanks!

it is a Magazine, usually devoted to things art., thought the issue number would explain that, should be available to US & UK audience in various libraries, and for sale at Borders, I think, (though didn't see it there) and other upscale magazine shops.

Thank you Bill,

I'm curious as to what (beyond the obvious involement of Sandra Kerr in Bagpuss) late '60s / early '70s British childrens television have to do with folk.

I'll look in the library next time I'm in the city.

Thanks

there is a general discussion of English folk music, mention of Bagpuss as being folky, as well as Play School, other shows were being released on cd by the label mentioned (Trunk?) Interesting in that this mag is devoted to contemporary art & culture, and is discussing the VALUE and IMPORTANCE of English folk music.
