A thought, now that Germany are the only European (Geographically) team left in the World Cup will we see the gutter English press, such as the Daily Mail and the Sun urging the English Lager Louts to support Germany - Mmmmm! Don't hold your breath !

if Germany & Brazil played each other 25 times, they'd each win some. One day.... and perhaps one lucky rebound or one penalty or one strech by a goalkeeper does not tell which is 'best'...only who did well on ONE day...maybe 25 games would give an idea...

Brazil's problem is that they have a bunch of superstars - great goal scorers wih attendant big egos who are not necessarily great team players. Their midfield sucks, and their passing game has been hit-and-miss. Whereas Germany is very well organized, in midfield as well as defensively, and they have some very good strikers, too. Although with Ballack out, they're at some disadvantage.

I still say it'll be either 1:0 or 2:1 Germany, probably in overtime.

Misophist, it matters to a whole lot of people. 1998's Final was watched by 2 billion - that's one third of the planet's population.

It's just so ironic that two teams who struggled so ineptly to qualify in the first place should be through to the final. Ah well, it can only be an improvement on the 1998 debacle.... I hope.

I thought the last final was very watchable. That French side was one of the greatest I've ever seen - even allowing for the fact that their recognised strikers could hardly finish their dinner. !994 was a real stinker of a final. All that skill added up to a goalless draw which was about exciting to watch as a speech to the Supreme Soviet. I agree that neither of the teams looks like one of the greats, but I reckon they will have a go at each other and I'm optimistic that it could turn out to be quite entertaining.

Am I imagining things or did Brazil not win all three games in their qualifying group - and by convincing scores as well. They struggled a bit in the semi-final against Turkey but they were missing some of their key players especially Ronaldinho, who scored what I think was one of the great goals of the tournament against England. It was labelled a fluke but if Beckham had scored it I think some of the commentators would have recognised it for the great goal that it was. OK Seaman should possibly have stopped it but it was aimed for the top corner and magniciently executed in my opinion.

I think Brazil have been the best side to watch in this competition. Their inconsistency in defence is a bit worrying, but this can make for exciting matches. I hope they succeed on Sunday, or at least that they score early which will force Germany into making a game of it.

Brazil won the first game in their group against Turkey with all their good players by 2:1 and only with a penalty shortly before the end of the game which everybody agreed should not have been granted (the foul was clearly outside of the penalty area). Nobody then did call that a convincing score.

I'm impressed, Den! I thought it was an exciting match. I watched it twice, once live at 1AM Sunday and the second time during our referee class later that day. It was just as exciting the second time. I thought Germany really rose above their earlier efforts. If Ballack had been in I'm sure they would have scored at least one. And if Kahn had been truly superhuman instead of merely human, they probably would have won. I'm very glad he won the Golden Ball.

And as a still-fledgling referee, it was inspiring to watch Collina work the match. Even if he does look like he belongs in a Stephen King movie...

I was very pleased to see that Collina had charge of the match. His performance and style of refereeing should be compulsory viewing for all refs.

As to Brazil's performance - worthy World Cup winners. I do wish that England's game had been in better conditions for us (it's a winter game over here, you know, and our style of play reflects that) just to see how far we could have taken them.
