sorry, my ears are still learning. if anyone happens to know where I can find them or feels like htmling, I would really apprecieate it. Oh, I was thinking about John McCutcheon's (sp?) version, but they are probably similar enough. Banjo tab would be really great, but I have yet to track them down, for free anyway. thanks and happy pickin. :-)

Judy Henske on her "Judy Henske" album has a dynamite version of Little Omie Wise, which she sings as "Romy Wise". She give her typical wise-ass flippant intro to the song that gets titters from the audience, and then sings a beautiful, powerful, straight version that is among the best I've heard.

Try these chords: D G I'll tell you a story about Omie Wise

A7 D And how she was deluded by John Lewis's lies

This song is about a real homicide in the early 1800's and should therefore be sung with some respect for the victim, an orphan girl who was impregnated by John Lewis and murdered so that John would be free to marry a higher status woman. John was arrested for the murder and reportedly fled while out on bail. He was acquitted some years later when he returned home to face trial after the passions of the community had cooled.

And people wonder why I prefer folk music over pop!

OMIE WISE (Doc Watson's version) is:

Oh, [Bm(Am)]listen to my story, I'll [A(D)]tell you no lies,
How [Bm(Am)]John Lewis did murder poor [F#m(Em)]little Omie [Bm(Am)]Wise.

Other stanzas are HERE.

To me, Doc Watson's version sounds like it's capo'd up one fret and in these positions:

Amin    G    Amin      Emin7    Amin

with the capo that's actucally

Bbmin   Ab    Bbmin    Fmin7    Bbmin

But I sing a little higher, so I do it capo 3, meaning it would sound in Cminor.

For this song, I generally play the G position chord 32003x and the Emin7 02003x. During the lead riff, I sometimes play the Amin position as a partial barre on the 5th fret.
