Subject: David Amram: Thursday on CKUT

My special guest for much of this week's Folk Roots/Folk Branches will be composer, musician and author DAVID AMRAM. We recorded the conversation on Sunday when David was in Montreal to lead a jazz-poetry tribute to his friend and collaborator Jack Kerouac at L'OFF Jazz Festival.

In a career that stretches back 50 years, David has, and continues to, move constantly between the classical, jazz, folk and world music milieus. With a musical philosophy of "no more walls," he organically integrates various musical genres into others.

During the conversation, we'll hear five of David's recordings representing many of the different facets of his music.

I also spoke with David in advance of his visit to Montreal for a Montreal Gazette preview of the Kerouac tribute. Until Thursday, there will be a link to that story at Folk Roots/Folk Branches.

Folk Roots/Folk Branches is heard Thursday mornings from 9:00-11:30 (EDT) on CKUT, 90.3 FM in Montreal, or in RealAudio from the Folk Roots/Folk Branches site.

The conversation with David will begin after 9:45 am. Before that, there'll be lots of other great music.

See ya on the radio or the web…

Mike Regenstreif
