Subject: Little Chef From: Tig Date: 03 Jul 02 - 02:53 PM The Badger is looking for the worms for the parody 'little Chef' which goes to the tune of Old Shep. He had a copy a long time ago in one of his song books which got knicked and is driving me round the bend muttering about them. HELP please!! |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Little Chef From: Tig Date: 05 Jul 02 - 11:52 AM At the same time we had the words for Hector the Dope Sniffing Hound. We think both songs were by the same person. Would love the ones for Hector as well. |
Subject: Lyr Add: The Song of the Homesick Traveller From: GUEST,HP Date: 05 Jul 02 - 01:15 PM Glad someone refreshed this thread. I think the words are by a group called 'Fascinating Aida'. I'll type them out as I know them but apologise in advance if the computer turns them into prose instead of song format! THE SONG OF THE HOMESICK TRAVELLER (as recorded by Fascinating Aida) When you're far away from your ain country, Frae all your kith and kin wha ye hold dear, When there's ne'er a soul you can call your friend, And the world seems so dark and drear, When your heart is sad and weary, And you long once mair to see your home, That's when I hear a voice keep calling me, Calling me nae mair tae roam.
Little Chef, I hear you calling,
Oh at Heston and at Watford Gap,
Little Chef, I hear you calling.
Little Chef, I hear you calling. As I say, I have a tape of 'Fascinating Aida' singing the song, which they call 'The Song Of The Homesick Traveller', but am not sure of authorship. On reflection the words could be by Adam McNaughtan or someone similar. I'd be very interested to know. I've also just realised that the original song requested was to the tune of 'Old Shep' and as I have only a very hazy idea of how that goes, this might be a totally different song! Anyway - it might be of help, or of interest. Cheers. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Little Chef From: Tig Date: 06 Jul 02 - 01:52 PM Thaqnks for the try HP but the words you put up aren't the ones he is looking for. Made interesting reading though :-))! Any more suggestions/offers for the words of either Little Chef or Hector the Dope Sniffing Hound? |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Little Chef From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 06 Jul 02 - 08:28 PM It's not much help, but I remember hearing that Old Shep parody. Maybe I'll wake up remembering who, but I doubt it.
It's not Les Barker is it? |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Little Chef From: Tig Date: 07 Jul 02 - 08:39 AM I thought it was but we can't find it in any of his books and John is certain that it was by someone who moved out of this country. It was around in the late 70's. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Little Chef From: Jim Dixon Date: 09 Jul 02 - 01:16 PM Mike Absalom wrote and performed "Hector the Dope-Sniffing Hound," on "Hector and Other Peccadillos," 1972, as described at his web site. The lyrics are contained in a comic-book-style cartoon. I couldn't find any evidence that Mike had anything to do with "Little Chef," however. |
