Hey! Thanks for your quick response to my last thread!

Here's another. I learned it a dozen years ago from some of my Puerto Rican students in Trenton, NJ. Anyone know the complete lyrics to "La playa"?

The chorus goes:

Coje tu sombrero e pontelo Vamos a la playa caliente el sol

The name of the song is "Mari(a) Isabel". Unfortunately I don't know the whole song lyrics :-(, but you could try on 4000folksong site. Frank Peterson has plenty of spanish songs there.

Yes, Kicky, how about a translation? Is that 4th line in the chorus supposed to be "cliente" or "caliente"?

Oh, you know how it is when you do these things late at night!. Yes that line should be caliente.

Translation:
The beach is deserted
The sea bathes your skin

(Repeat)
(Chiri-biri -bi etc. are just syllables like fa-la-la)

I wrote you name in the sand

It loses a little in the translation of course, but it's a really neat love song.

Once again, you are finding my errors. Eyes is correct. I was getting ahead of myself there a little bit. I just get in a hurry. I don't know where to find this song. The Spanish teacher at my school, who is a very good friend, taught it to me. I am sure it has to be around somewhere since it is pretty popular. All of my students know it. They are mostly from Mexico. There have to be some anthologies of Mexican folkmusic around that have it on, but at this point, that's the best I can do. It really is a pretty song and lots of fun to sing as a group. Maybe someone else can help us out.

I've got this song on double collection CD "The best from Spain" .It's just one of the serie. I'll check up the name of recording company (seems to me German or Canadian one) tommorow. Entonces, hasta manana!

Hi fellows over there! You are talking about a neat and popular song created about 1967-68 by a spanish pop group named "Los payos". This song became quickly very popular and it was priced with the title "Song of the Summer" by that time. Then I was 25 years old (green!) and I'm very glad to check that 30 years later, one of the songs of my youth has still succes to nowadays young people separated from Spain by an ocean and some thousand of miles! I think that music is great putting people together. By the way, the name of the song you like so much is not "La playa" but "María Isabel" instead. Perhaps you would like to know that the name of the group author of such song, "Los payos", is the name that gipsy people use currently to denominate the people who are NOT gipsy. There was another song sort of like this I learned over 25 years ago in high school Spanish:

Anyone remember more? (and correct what I've got?)

Sorry I couldn't find any record of this into my collection. The song is neat and pretty, but yes, very old one. Perhaps you remember who is the author or the group first releasing such song?

The composers of the song "Cuando Calienta El Sol" are Mario Rigual (lyrics) and Music by Carlos Rigual and Carlos Alberto Martinoli, but I don't know which group released it. It was realeased in the US as "Love Me With All of Your Heart". I don't know which group sang it here either, but I know I have always liked it.

I learned this song in a spanish class. It has a nifty tune that is very catchy... I know that the version that was taught to me was sung by a group called Los Playos. You can download it on a music program. I believe there are a few different versions. I hope this helps a little!!

Of course, once when I was singing it, the line "M'estremesco" came out "M'escremento" - which I was afraid might mean the same thing as a similar-sounding English word, and that thought totally embarrassed me and cracked me up.   (I later found out the Spanish word is close to "escremento" but not quite that.

Cuando Calienta el Sol was released in the 70's and sung in spanish, but I can't recall the name of the group, which I am searching the net to ascertain their name so I can try to download it or buy it. I used to play the song on my radio show when it was popular.

"Cuando caliente del Sol" was a hit for Connie Francis (on youtube).

It was composed by Carlos Alberto Martinoli (plus Carlos Rigual-Rodriguez) about 1961. He has worked in Hollywood.

About "Cuando calienta el sol" (aquí en la playa / siento tu cuerpo vibrar cerca de mí...) this article says that the song was written by Nicaraguan trompetist Rafael Gastón Pérez: "Otra composición importante, con una polémica historia, es la que realizara Gastón Pérez en una playa del pacífico nicaragüense, la cual tituló "Cuando Calienta El Sol En Masachapa", misma que vendió por unos cuantos córdobas, la cual posteriormente apareció grabada por los Hermanos Rigual con el título "Cuando Calienta El Sol" constituyéndose en el mayor éxito internacional de este trío, sin embargo, no se reconocieron los créditos de su compositor nicaragüense" and here is an article from 2007 that tells the story. Sorry guys, it's in Spanish but to make a long story short, it says that he wrote the song in the late 50's and sold it for 400 córdobas to someone who sold it to the Mexican Rigual Brothers who made some changes and first recorded it in the very early 60's as Q mentioned.
Btw, "es tu pelo" is "it's your hair" not "it's your skin" ("skin" is "piel")
