"Twelve Stone Two" sung by Frank Quinn is on Farewell To Ireland [box set] (disc 3, track 20, with sound clip).

Does anyone know the origins of this song? I recorded a Gloucestershire farmer who sang it.

From Bob Davenport, and obviously a variant of the one posted by Guest#.

TWELVE STONE TWO
(from the singing of Bob Davenport)

I tell you, lads and lasses, I'm frightened for my life,
for by this time tomorrow I'll be married to a wife.
An agricultural Irish girl, just twice the size of me,
and upon me soul, I'm frightened what the consequence will be, for

(chorus)
She's a fine big woman, she's one you couldn't tame,
and by this time tomorrow, she'll possess me name.
I feel so dreadful nervous, I don't know what to do,
for tomorrow I'll be buckled under twelve stone two!

She made me sit upon a bench, then sat upon me knee,
-imagine twelve stone two on a little chap like me!
She did all the courting, I hadn't a word to say,
and like a helpless little lamb, I gave meself away

I'd like to break the contract off, but that would never do!
Me life would not be worth a groat, between meself and you!
I don't think she'd put me in a breach-of-promise case,
but with her two bid fists, she'd put the breaches in me face!

All this sung in a broad Geordie accent. Don't know if he ever recorded it.
Gurney.

From Irish Song Book, No. 2, (New York: Wehman Bros., 1909), page 127:

TWELVE STONE TWO.

1. I feel so dreadful nervous that I'm frightened of my life,
For by this time to-morrow I'll be fastened to a wife;
An agricultural Irish girl that's twice the size of me;
Upon my word I'm doubtful what the consequence will be.

CHORUS: She's a fine big woman, and she knows that same,
And early in the morning she'll possess my name;
But I feel so dreadful nervous, I don't know what to do,
For to-morrow I must buckle on the twelve stone two.

2. I would like to break the contract off, but that would never do;
My life would not be worth two straws, between myself and you.
I don't think she'd put me in a breach-of-promise case:
But with her big fist she'd make the breaches on my face.

3. She made me drunk at Sullivan's, then sat upon my knee;
Just imagine twelve stone two on a little chap like me.
'Twas she done all the courting, I had not one word to say,
So like a helpless little lamb, I gave myself away.
