I have to work weekends during the summer. August 2 - 4 is the only one I have off and we're going to the Champlain Valley Folk Festival. I'm very much looking forward to the Quebecois music and to hearing Providence, whose excellent CD I've been enjoying.

We're booked on the program as Irish in America; Bonnie and Deirdre from The Johnson Girls, Bob Conroy and myself. Please say "hello" if you happen to catch any of our concerts during the festival.

All the best,
Dan Milner

I am jinxed with this one. It's in my back yard and every year something comes up. this time it's worse than usual, it's my inlaws. BOTHER!!!! If folks are traveling up to the festival from the south on Friday, hop off the interstate and visit me at work in Montpelier and I'll feed you and try not to whine.

Susan

Hi, Susan: Didn't know you live in Montpelier.... my wife and I passed through town last week heading up to Burlington to celebrate our 4th wedding Anniversary. Driving through town, it looked like the last thing Montpelier needed was two more people. Beautiful country up your way.... we may have to head up in the fall to see the colors (although we live in a beautiful valley down here in Connecticut and have some lovely ones of our own..)

Jerry

I guess I forgot to mention that Margaret MacArthur will be honored this year.

On Sunday just before noon we'll be leading a sea shanty session.

I believe we may call into the "songcatcher" (i.e. folk song collecting workshop) that will probably feature the Flanders Ballad Collection of New England songs. Margaret and Nancy-Jean Ballard Siegel will be on that panel.

All the best,
Dan Milner

I went in 1999, 2000 and 2001 and it was a great festival with acts like Tom Paxton, Herdman/Hills/Mangsen, Tom Russell, Jesse Winchester, Bob Franke, Jane Voss, Peter & Lou Berryman, Joel Mabus, Finest Kind, Eric Bibb, Van Duser & Novick, etc.

This year's performer list looks a little to thin to drive 350 miles. Winterhawk looks like a much better choice next week.

Not a lot of "names," but the Greenbriar Boys reunion would certainly be worth the trip; and so, I expect, would Dan Milner and them, 'tho I've never seen them live.

I'll miss it due to the Montana trip, but I wish I could do both.

Peter.

It also conflicts with the Maine Festival, the one my friend Marshall Dodge created 25 years ago. On top of that, one of my best friends is having his 80th birthday party, and, if I'm not there, he wont speak to me for 60 years.

Caroline and I will be there, as we always are. Look for our booth and say hello.
