Subject: Lyr Add: I CAN RUN FASTER THAN JIMMY BROWN
From: GUEST,WindRider

I'm pretty old now five and a half
gonna be like daddy and never laugh
cause when your old you've got to be strong
your not a child for very long.

singing hey la di di o ladi da
oliodo and oly oxen free
o i can run faster than jimmy brown
i'm the queen of the mountain
and you'll never get me down.

Sadly, the Geocities page is gone (it was mine), but other sites have archived it. (as of this posting, if you swap www.geocities.com for www.oocities.org in the web address, you can get to an archive)

I'm in the process of making an updated version (which is how I stumbled across Mudcat), so I may be able to link to a video in a few weeks/months.

While I didn't have the chords, another archived Geocities site seems to.

A                        D
Run and jump and skip and fall
A
You think you're tall but you're so small
D                      A
Mamma calls for supper no more play
D          E         A
Tomorrow will be another day

I should have asked in my original reply - does anyone know the origins? (I may make an origins post for it in the future, but I don't want to spam a gazillion origin request posts)

I'm finding all the other mentions of the song with it entitled "Jimmy Brown". It seems not to be attributed anywhere, and most often once it gets into the clutches of scouting organizations, that seems to be the kiss of death as far as attribution goes. That's interesting because it indicates that the author of the song doesn't matter and that's very much like 'traditional' music. I think social media does it quite well these days.

The constant lack of attribution really bugs me, and is one of the two reasons I'm trying to track down the originals (the other being that I'm fascinated by how songs change over time, especially when learned orally)

That being said, I also want to keep the songs I love alive and being sung, so I have in the past (and will continue to do so) posted the lyrics before knowing the attribution. But it remains on my mind. I literally have been trying to find the origins of another camp song, On the Loose, for over a decade. I even bought a book with that as the title in hopes that it was connected, but the song wasn't mentioned. It's only this week, since stumbling across Mudcat, that I've been able to put that mystery to rest. (Cd's coming in the mail soon, I'm so excited!)

I've noticed that Google has gotten better about connecting lyrics searches with accurate information about source, at least with pop songs. Hopefully down the road, attribution information will become so easily available that even social media uses it...

I hear you and agree completely.

I don't know whether you came across this one. It too has a different title: Queen of the Mountain.

But, can you run faster than Usain Bolt?
