Great news, Lane. And you are right, Mudjack is a heckuva guy.

Yeah, Genie. I left that whole thing whole, from the spider all the way through to Roller Derby Queen.... There really wasn't any way to split it up without losing some serious grins! *g* And somehow I knew MMario would enjoy it (hey, he dug the alphabet song, why not the itsy bitsy spider?)

***REITERATION FROM ABOVE***
Earlier I'd posted:
Same deal as last time. If you want a copy of it, send Max a donation and PM me your address, I'll send you a copy.

So to the folks that have sent PM's and e-mails about getting a recording, keep in mind I have the kindest of hearts when I say this, but I couldn't give a rat's ass about your financial details, or Max/Mudcat's either for that matter. Mudcat Honor System in play. You can send him something, anything, nothing, whatever you think is fair, doesn't matter. I don't have the time or inclination to check up on everyone, all I really need is a snail-mail address to send music too, okay? After all, this is folk music, and not the IRS... *g*

Paws crossed, the next batch will go out in the post later this week. Thanks to all for their patience too.

~JE

Ah, MMario, you got some of the general musical silliness, too--not just whole songs. I hope that included Alex's stirring lyrical stylings on "Bop ba ba bop, dip-di-dip-di-dip...etc. on "Blue Moon!" *G*

Genie

PS
"Bear Farmers?" How did I miss that one? (Must've been Saturday night.) I'd love to hear that, too.

I'm about halfway through the tape I got sent (THANK YOU!) and as usual with "mudgathers" not only some excellent music - but the best parts ore the "bonus tracks" they don't bother to mention!!!! 'May the itsy bitsy spider rise again!'; 'Why must I be a teenager in jail', etc.

And I would REALLY like the lyrics to 'Bear Farmers'

Just came back from a wonderful weekend at the Stevenson, WA Bluegrass Festival - great! Perhaps the best part, however, was the chance to meet Mudjack. I ran into him playing at a jam, doing a couple of my favorite tunes, after which we played a few and got to know each other a little - great guy, and a heck of a lot of fun to play music with.

Thanks, Jack, it was great to meet you and I hope to see you, and some of these other folks soon!

Genie:

There were two MDRs in use; one was mine, one Jen's. The first half, mentioned above, is whatever Jen captured to tape and offered to distribute further up in the thread.

The performer names I listed were simply the name of whoever the primary performers were -- almost all the songs are singalongs.

I leave to Jen's good judgement how she wants to distribute the riches! **bg** RHIP, RHIR as we used to tell the sailors!

"Other half of the recordings," Amos? What's on the first half? I hope someone got RR doing "Hallelujah!" and you and Jen doing "In Spite Of Ourselves," some of Amergin's poetry, and a few other gems, including some of our group jamming. Speaking of the latter, I thought there were other people singing/playing along with me on several of those songs ("Summer Wages," "Sweet Wyoming Home," "Summertime," and "Sylvie.") There were times when the whole group seemed to get into the act, and I do hope some of it made it to tape or disk.

Anyway, I'll look forward to hearing our not-ready-for-prime-time "Camp Runamuck Hits."

Well, now Amos, I think you musta missremembered somewhat. As I reecall, you'n'me jess throwed Maisy in there cuz she was having fits agin, face bright red and fists flying an shriekin' her dang lungs out, so's they could hear her in the next holler over and they wuz thinkin' we couldn't sing worth piss, and we wuz plumb fed up with her bein ornery and gittin' more grits than the rest of us. An she was fit to win her some ugly contests, too, iff'n we let her growd up--why, she shore woulda beat the hounds in a dog show, an' well we jes' couldn't have that happen to Old Blue number 'leventy seven. It war a damn good thing we did, too -- everybody's in the whole holler's bin a damn patch more peace-able ever since. I seem to remember we throwed a coupla pizen-snakes in after her fer good luck an' good measure, but the pigs ate 'm. Dessert, I reckon.

Roger, Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" has, it seems, been used as background in a number of films and TV shows, including the season finale of "The West Wing" this year. This thread has the lyrics, chords, and a discussion of various artists who have recorded it.

As I said, I'm really teed that I had to miss hearing you sing it. I hope someone got it on tape or mini disk.

I'm pretty sure that when I sang "Gain Control" and those other mellow songs with you late Saturday night/early Sunday morning, there were no recording devices going. So I'll just hope that someone recorded you doing those songs before I got back from Seattle. I think someone may have recorded the group doing "Hobo's Lullabye" later on Sunday morning.

Oh my God, I'm in serious trouble.

Lyrical Lady won a competition a while back in which the prize was a recording of me singing "Til I gain control again" and " Hobo's lullaby".

She still hasn't received them.I need a copy. Quickly.

Genie, it was the LC one. I watched Shrek and had to learn it. Got the words off a Cohen website, but couldn't quite fit words to chords and timing.( I didn't have a recording). Then I remembered a video I had of Leonard Cohen on Austin City Limits and knew I had heard it before.

It wasn't there. I was then enjoying an evening of music-video watching, when,lo and behold, here is Cheryl Crow on Sessions at West 54th, alone with an acoustic Gibson. singing Halleluia. Capoed 1 in A-flat. Playable ad singable.
I really like the song.

I just got in from Salem,Oregon, where I went to work on Monday Morning. The cat missed me, so I had to sing it a song.

I'm dead tired and will tell more later.

By the way the cats are Sully and Brrrrrrdddddddgggett. And Angus responds to "Where's the golf ball"

rr

PS.I have seen Cleatus mounted to Wassup Dock and he is blue.

Wasn't nearly so bad except for the fact that he grabbed my favourite stethoscope from my bag, held it over the toilet and said "So help me god, if you so much as hum it again, I'll flush....I'm not kidding, Jen....I'll do it..." (he's got some strange thing where if you sing anything catchy, it's stuck in his head all day. To torture him, we walk in singing "Happy Birthday" or "Itsy Bity Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka-Dot Bikini" or something...drives him nuts) I managed to stay silent, but only just.

No Genie, I had one of those moments at work when the clouds parted, the sunbeams came down, the angels were singing (granted, singing skynard, but you get the idea)....I was running through various verses at work, and one of the station guys has this a squirt gun that he uses to keep the cat off of the plants on his desk. He pulled it on me, and I swear by the look on his face....if it had been a real gun?? (I'm also staying away from his plants, just to be on the safe side)

Well I was cuttin' a rug
Down at a place called the Jug
With a girl named Linda-Lou....
....An' I said 'Wait a minute, Mister
I didn't even kiss her
Don't want no trouble with you'
An' the doctor said 'Give 'em jug band music....

LOL!!! Well, y'see, MM, it was this way...out on the canebreak as a boy, usn's useter raise them razorbacks to hep mek ends meet. An' I useter slop 'em. So we hed this big slop barrel outside the galley an' Ma ud alwez keep it full from cooking fer the hands an' all. But then one Friday night Ah had an adventure with some white lightning and the next morning I was staggerin' around but naccherly I didn't want Ma to know. Come about 9 AM Sa'ddy, I was stumbling around an' realized I didn't know if I hed done mah chores er not I was so bumfuzzled fum thet likker. So went over an' hefted the barrel. It felt like there musta been fifty or a hunnert pounds of slops in there! Dang!! Thet's how I knew I hedn't slopped them hogs yet!

So I jes' swung thet barrel up on mah shoulder an went ovuh tuh where them razorbacks were kept. Aimin' to ketch up on mah chore before ma found out, ya see. Them canebreak razorbacks, now they somethin' else annyhoo -- dunno ef you ever see'd one or two when they get cranky but they as like as gore you as look atchoo if they is in a Mood, an' these 'uns were cuz it was special hot thet day.

Now I didn't reckon on a couple of thangs on account I had been outta commission a tad late that morning. One is that Deda and Maisy hed been shooed outen the house by Maw and hed been trying to pass some time playin' Allie-In-Free down by the stock area, an the other was that Deda was supposed ter be "Iyut" an' count to a hunnert but she always did get kinder hung up on those eleventies so she was goin' back to one and startin' over to get it right and meanwhile Maisy, she not thinkin' just clambered right on inter that slop barrel which was empoty because, see, I really HAD done mah chore before I woke up to wonderin' 'bout it. But once she was in there, the fumes kinder got to her -- them slops are potent, down thet way -- and she had kinder curled up and fallen asleep in the bottom and no one finding her on account Deda was still goin' "Eleventy one....no...lesseee...two, three...." over an over.

So when I tipped that slop barrel, ol' King Eye, the biggest meanest canebreak razorback ever born, came galloping over, and Miss Fish Queen, the second orneriest was right behine, and they tuck tuh fighting and stompin' , so a course the other thirty-'leven of 'em had to jump in and scrap some too, and afore anyone knew from a goose there was Maisy all hoof-cut and diced up and then she was gone right along with the first rasher of slops!

So I 'splained it to Ma and she said it was okay cuz I was at least tryin tuh do mah job and no man could ask for any more'n thet, so noboddy felt too bad an' Deda an' I split her rations at dinner so hit was okay I reckon.

Anyhoo that's how it happened, an' I hope yore satisfied!!

Oh -- and don't be mixing our Mudcat Cletus up with Cleatus up in Ellensberg, what is a Ford-engine-blue Cleat whut I made an' installed on the back of the Whassup Dock down on Jen Ellen's lake, see, where the rowboat is. Cleatus the cleat, different from Cletus the unknown species, huh? Cleatus is modeled after a world class cleat I saw one time at a Marine Parts store called Cleat R Us, but that's another tale....

Regards,

A

MM:

PM me your fax number.

Yes, "King of Mercy Canyon" is the same as "Annie's Lover", a beautiful song.

Deda and I are just doing a variation on an old hillbilly crack: "I ain't been so happy since the pigs ate my little sister!".

I just didn't want anyone thinking that Deda had been eaten by pigs!! LOL! While we do have another sister, she has not been eaten by pigs as far as I know...but then, what do I know??? :>)
