Subject: Jed's new CD, Toronto, Friends
From: Big Mick
Date: 12 Jul 02 - 11:05 AM

This past weekend Jed invited me to come over to Toronto to "kick the tires" on the new CD he started in the late winter. He honored me by allowing me to sing some backup on it. Jed is being produced on this one by Paul and Bev Mills of Millstream Studio in Toronto. Paul produced Stan Rogers in addition to being his best friend. With Rick's near death experience and recovery, this weekend took on the additional significance of being a celebration of friendship. It became a time for reflection bathed in the waters of the music we all love so well. After I left Toronto on my way to an assignment in Florence, Kentucky, I had a long car ride to reflect on the significance of this all.

Let me begin by talking about Jed and his current effort. Very simply put, my friends, this man is a major talent and you will not want to miss this CD. His skills on the instruments he plays reflects an amazing investment of time spiced to just the right degree by a boatload of talent. The result is playing with incredible skill, yet with subtle intonations that the knowledgeable will love. His talent with instrumentation is equalled by his ability to create imagery with his lyrics that will evoke exactly the emotion that the song is trying to convey. I will let Jed tell the stories of his songs when the time is right, but here are a couple of teasers. Those among us who have witnessed the bravery of the women who help young men heal, and sometimes die, in the field hospitals near fields of battle will be touched to the core by "Banks of the Mobile". Similarly, Jed's tribute to a young woman who worked for him and died of Cancer, "Sarah's Mountain Time", will reach places inside you that you let few songs go. And he does it all on this CD. Makes you laugh, cry, feel good, and feel sad. When you match this up with Paul Mills, you can expect a product that will simply be a must have. Paul brings consumate skill, and the soul of an artist in his own right, to the mix. His creativity, personality, and technical expertise make this an amazing partnership. And by the way, Jed and I figure that we weren't twins separated at birth, but tripletts, Paul being the third. Do not miss this one, folks. It will be dynamite.

What can one say about Toronto? I can't speak to the whole city, but I can speak to what I have seen. To be sure, it is a big city with all that implies. There are the problems that they all have. But I must tell you that I love this town. It is like the proverbial coat of many colors. Folks still say hello. There are ethnic neighborhoods, but one doesn't feel like a stranger in them. It has a vibrant arts community. Old men sit in the coffee shops and solve the problems of the world. And people say hello. As I said, I love this town and its people. And there surely must be something in the water. The talent pool from which this town's folk community draws its players and singers is surely deep and filled with pure waters. Grit Laskin, Paul Mills, Glen Reid, Rick, and on and on. Sitting in a circle with the likes of these folks is a treat that I wish for every one of you in your lives. They are talented, caring and forgiving.

Friendship. Sometimes this term gets thrown around far too easily. I have many folks that I am friendly with, but not a lot that I call friends. This past weekend I was graced by the presence of a number of them, and the rest were in my thoughts. Rick..............we came so close to losing him to the Otherworld. And that thought hit everyone and they came to sit and play with their dear friend and rejoice in his sticking around for a while longer. And sitting there I see Jeri, Jed, Peter T., Michael K., Marion, Heather, Bonnie. I see new friends, but somehow, very dear friends, Paul and Bev. The Mills are the most amazing folks. They let you peer right into their lives. No pretense, no show. Just "here we are, and we are glad you are here" types. In my two visits to Toronto this year, I have never once felt awkward or uncomfortable. In fact I have felt myself embraced by their wonderful friendship.

I also thought of those that weren't in Toronto, or that we missed while there. Will I ever meet Steve Latimer?............LOL. I was wishing that all of these friends could have been there.

Which brings me to the reason I started this whole thing. We spend a lot of time debating and arguing about what the Mudcat should be. Sit down and ponder the wonder of this place a bit. Forget about answwering the latest bit of bait put out there by the poor souls for whom creating knee jerk reaction is their only form of recreation. Just sit and think about how lucky we are. I count among my friends, as a result of the Mudcat and Max, some of the most amazing musicians and folklorists. I have gotten several personal notes from Jean Ritchie, whom I have adored since the first time I heard THAT voice. Like many of you, I have come to know and love dearly Sandy and Caroline Paton. The talent that I have been allowed by this place to be among is almost beyond comprehension. Art Thieme, Dan Milner, Rick Fielding, Grit Laskin, Kendall Morse, and on and on. I have had Ed Trickett take me outside at an FSGW gathering and give me a song that I later was the first to record. I have had Dan Milner take an interest and send me a song that he had found in an old songster. It is on the new CD. And that doesn't even get to the lot of you that I have met and witnessed amazing vocal and instrumental skills that would match up with anyone.

What's the point? It isn't about me, or you, or them. It is about The Mudcat. For all of its warts, for all that is wrong with it, it is quite simply an amazing place. One can find the intimate details of a song with world wide perspectives given. One can find a discussion on everything from spuds to flatulence to Lord Benbow or Spancil Hill. Sometimes we lose perspective of the amazing nature of Max's grand experiment. We get all bogged down on whether someone should be anonymous or not, whether there is too much BS, or whether the scholarship is good enough. For this Mudcatter, it is just an amazing place that brought together folkies and their foibles from around the world. Rick once called it the town he always wanted to live in. Amen.

All the best,

Mick

*grin * speaking strictly for myself - you are preaching to the converted. That's in regard to virtually all of your post - but especially "His skills on the instruments he plays reflects an amazing investment of time spiced to just the right degree by a boatload of talent. The result is playing with incredible skill, yet with subtle intonations that the knowledgeable will love. His talent with instrumentation is equalled by his ability to create imagery with his lyrics that will evoke exactly the emotion that the song is trying to convey"

but let me add - you certainly don't NEED to be knowledgeable to appreciate Jed - or the subtle magic he works - (because I'm sure not) just be capable of listening.

"What can one say about Toronto?"

How about the stench that covers the city from the garbage strike in the hottest time of the year? The garbagemen in Toronto make more than 50 grand a year and they go on strike endangering all of our health from the rats and vermin that have infested the instant dumps that every park in the city has become.

Thank God Ernie finally came to his senses and ordered the back to work yesterday. Still no cleanup around here though.

I have to echo what Mick said. The little battles here don't seem worth consideration when there's so much magic in the world. Garbage is fleeting. The people and neighborhoods they live in are more permanent. Sometimes it takes an outsider to notice certain things - people who aren't used to the Way Things Are. Folks I'd never met before behaved like good neighbors and seemed to expect the best from me as well.

Jed's CD - Mick and MMario have it right. To someone who isn't a geek, the music simply sounds beautiful and right. I don't consider myself a geek just yet although I'm working on it, so folks were pointing out just how Jed was getting certain sounds and it was pretty amazing. He's subtle. It's not an "ooh, look at all the fancy stuff I can do" thing, but more of a "let me make this song beautiful for you" thing. And Paul Mills is an artist.

I guess we all choose whether to focus on the garbage or the gardens. After basking in the wonder a good friend has at simply being alive, after being swept away in a wave of music and the love and excitement people have for it, I figure caring about the negative stuff is somebody else's job.

Thanks a lot for that Big Mick. It convinces me of one thing, I must get round to visiting my brother who lives in Toronto. He's been there for years and I've never come across, he comes back to England a fair bit so I get to see him here. I've realised reading your letter that not only will I find my brother there, maybe I'll find some other folks worth meeting as well, and share a few tunes. I'll ring up the airline right now!

All I ever got out of Mudcat was being hugged by Big Mick (there are those who would kill for this opportunity, I know).....
He exaggerates. I don't anyone in Toronto who just says "hello" out of nowhere to strangers, unless they happen to be the cash-and-carry lady Mick met at his motel and about whom he gave us an airbrushed anecdote......

Did I mention that Mick didn't destroy any flowers this time around?

Mick understates the amazing bunch of people around the patio furniture on Saturday -- of which he was no mean member -- la creme de la creme. The real Toronto (and much of Canada) stringleaders. Plus Jed. It was pretty cool......

Did I mention that Mick didn't destroy any flowers this time around? chortle.

yours, Peter T.

Well, now I'm feeling like I've been quite dismissive of GUEST, and I'm sorry. The garbage sure isn't much of a concern when I don't have to live in a city with mountains of it! Guess it's these damned rose colored glasses. I still think the bad stuff doesn't matter as much when there's enough good stuff in a person's life, but you can't walk around with blinders on.

Peter, they said "hello" to me! They met my eyes and smiled, too. Maybe it's just you? I think Mick was heading down the flower-destruction route, but the chair police got him first. "NO! Don't back up! Remember last time?"

Regarding the cash-and-carry lady and Mick - well, if a man is going to fondle his low D on a street corner in the wee hours of the morning, it might just appear like he wanted some company. He got to the heavy artillery (Uillean pipes) on Sat morning, but all they seemed to attract was a couple of stray cats. Wrong time of day for cash-and-carry ladies anyway.

Now, what's this about almost losing Rick? Somebody give me a thread link or something, I am completely clueless.

Whatever happened, I'm glad it's an "almost".

Yup, have to concur about jed's new album. Picture Tex Ritter meets The Chieftans meets Ozzie Osbourne meets Yma Sumach meets Lisa Simpson meets meatloaf.

....or just picture Jed.

We're headin' up to Mudcatter Paul's garden of magical musical delights tonight for a final jam session. Looks like the legendary (depending on how you view legends) Mose Scarlett will be there and one of the great hidden songwriting talents on the planet, Rick Speyer.

With all the musical testosterone going around, I should also mention that Paul's beautiful helpmate Bev is a fine singer in her own right, who can certainly brag about the "Common Thread" Choir, that she belongs to....but she just ain't the 'braggin' type....so I'll do it for her.

P.S. Looks like most of the garbage has been cleaned up, and we survived the strike (the issues were VERY complex and had little to do with money) without anyone going totally ballistic.

Cheers

Rick

You have no idea how sorry I am that I missed it. It seems that I missed you guys by no more than a few minutes each way. I know, I should have called, I just didn't think that Rick was up to going out. I was more worried that he would be in bed. Apparently he's doing better than I thought he would be. God bless him.

Mick, the next time that you're here, come straight to Whitby, that's where everything really happens in Ontario. BTW, did you get one of the cool dark things we left there?

Can't wait to hear Jed's new CD.

Jed, I'm glad you had an enjoyable stay here. At the same time that you were enjoying the hispitatlity of the folk community, a religious man was murdered just because he was visibly Jewish.

From today's Toronto Star

By Nicholas Keung and Melissa Leong STAFF REPORTERS

Police are searching for two people after an Orthodox Jewish father of six was stabbed to death early yesterday morning in an unprovoked attack by a man believed to be a skinhead, witnesses say.

The slaying provoked instant fears in Toronto's Jewish community.

A manhunt is under way for 20-year-old Christopher Steven McBride and Mercedes (Sylvia) Asante, 19, who police believe were involved in the possible hate crime. A third man, who was not immediately identified, has been detained and is under investigation.

David Rosenzweig, who was to celebrate his 49th birthday yesterday, was stabbed in the back on the sidewalk near the Israeli-owned King David Pizza on Bathurst St., just south of Lawrence Ave. W., at 1:10 a.m. He was whisked to Sunnybrook hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Witnesses heard one of the attackers yelling, "He's a rabbi," before he pulled out a 30-centimetre knife and thrust it into Rosenzweig's lower back. The bearded victim was wearing a traditional Jewish kippa and a suit.

"It's a very heinous crime, a very cowardly crime," Chief Julian Fantino told a news conference at Toronto police headquarters yesterday. "We know that the victim was a middle-aged Hasidic Jew and the two suspects had the appearances of skinheads. We are looking at the possibility of this being a hate-motivated crime."

Two men and a woman, in their late teens or early 20s, entered the pizzeria and engaged in an argument with people inside, witnesses said.

"The two guys were harassing the customers. They were obviously there trying to create troubles. They were looking for troubles. I looked at their eyes and their face, they looked like they were on drugs or something," said an employee who gave his name only as Eddie.

He said the trio then left the pizzeria, heading south on Bathurst. One of the men ran over to Rosenzweig, who was standing in front of Dell Park Variety down the street, waiting for a tow truck to remove his son Ezra's stalled vehicle, which had been involved in a fender-bender.

"I don't think the victim knew those guys. He just happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time. It could've been anybody," said Eddie, 18.

At Rosenzweig's Almore Ave. home, friends and relatives gathered to mourn the death of a man they called "as kind as a saint."

Avrum Rosensweig, brother of the victim's wife Chavi, said Rosenzweig, a chartered accountant, was a very "kind, soft-spoken man" who devoted his life to his family.

"He always went out of his way to help other people. He was born to give," he said, adding that Chavi and the couple's five boys and a girl, ages 8 to 24, were not coping well with the tragic loss. Rosenzweig also had a grandson.

From 10 p.m. until the time his son called him for help, Rosenzweig was helping a rabbi collect money for charity, his family said yesterday.

"Today's supposed to be his Hebrew birthday," said Rabbi Ben Hecht, Rosenzweig's brother-in-law. "He was only there helping his son with his car. It's devastating, and we couldn't believe such an awful thing would happen to him."

Family friend Mordy Kaplan said one of the victim's sons is headed home from a tour in Italy, and so is the man's mother, who lives in Miami.

Kaplan, who belongs to the same Emek Tefilah Synagogue, said Rosenzweig was "very patient with people and had a lot of respect for others, just like a saint."

Nathan Elzas agreed.

"He never said any bad words about others. He never lost his temper and was well liked in the community, always cared about others' feelings. He spent a lot of time volunteering at different charitable organizations," noted Elzas, who has known the family for 30 years and had talked to Rosenzweig on the phone about midnight, just before the stabbing.

He said Rosenzweig was born in Canada to parents who are Holocaust survivors.

Elzas didn't witness the attack but said Rosenzweig was identifiably an Orthodox Jewish man, wearing a "white shirt, black suit, kippa and thick beard."

"It makes a lot of eerie feelings among people in the community about what happened. Everyone will be looking over their shoulders and be alert about their surroundings," he said, adding that the family has yet to claim the body from the morgue in preparation for a funeral.

The stabbing stunned Toronto's 200,000-strong Jewish community.

Frank Dimant, executive vice-president of B'nai Brith Canada, is a friend of Rosenzweig's brother and said he was a "gentle soul."

"He was a very low-key, highly respected individual," Dimant said. "It's horrific for the family, for the community and for the Jewish people on the whole."

Dimant was quick to declare the murder a hate crime. "He was an ordinary, peace-loving, modest individual who was killed for one reason only — because he was Jewish. It could have been anyone in our community. We've seen it in Israel and now in Canada. It's open season on the Jews."

Pearl Gladman, with B'nai Brith Canada, said there have been recent incidents in which Jews have been harassed in the Bathurst and Lawrence area, a well-known Jewish neighbourhood. Her organization has been warning police about a rising tide of hate since Sept. 11.

Len Rudner, of the Ontario region of the Canadian Jewish Congress, said Toronto's close-knit community is stunned.

"There's a growing sense of shock because this is not happening halfway across the world. This is happening on our streets."

The killing made headlines in Israel, said Zehavit Ben Hillel, of the Israeli Consulate General in Toronto. She was awakened by Israeli media at 4 a.m. yesterday.

Police blocked off Bathurst St. between Lawrence and Glengrove Ave. W. until late morning, as a team of experts from Israel's Zaka rescue and recovery service, who happened to be visiting Toronto, arrived to collect Rosenzweig's flesh and blood for a proper Jewish funeral.

"The blood and flesh of a person is all sacred. They have to be buried with the person. We have been doing this kind of cleanup for people killed in terrorist attacks for their proper burials," said Yisroel Stefansky.

After hearing what you and Paul were up to, I don't think my feedback was very significant. Glad to offer opinions on anything, though!

Stan's guitar has my fingerprints on it somewhere, too. Beautiful instrument. Of course the instruments being handed around in the sessions were incredible. ("Here, hold my Laskin while I play Rick's Gibson.")

Regarding Rick, I think "basking in his glow" is just about right. You were glowing a bit yourself, friend!

Fair winds...

Except for a couple of snipes at the bad side of Toronto (hey every city has em!) I've enjoyed this thread a lot.

We're talkin' a magical couple of weeks here, folks - the kind where chemistry and good music combine to make everyone involved sit back and say, "Life is good!".

And you all must know that none of this would have happened without the Mudcat! It was the Mudcat that introduced Jed to Rick and then Rick introduced Jed to me. It was the Toronto Mudcatters who gathered at Rick's place to celebrate his personal victory and it was Mudcatters Mick and Jeri and some-time Mudcatter Betty who joined us from the U.S. to celebrate that and Jed's new CD. It was just all too good to be true...but it was true.

Thanks to all involved, and to those of you who weren't, I would urge you to check out Jed's new CD when it comes out. You'll hear the magic there! Jed and I clicked. He's a very talented fella and one who, I predict, will turn a few heads. Thanks for the priviledge of working with you, Jed. I value our new-found friendship.

Cheers,

Paul Mills

I want it! Jed, send me one, 40 Ardsley Ave. South Portland Maine 04106.

A word for those who hate guns; in the matter of the Rabbi who was brutally murdered on the street by a coward with a knife, if that had happened here, and I was present, they would not be looking for the bastard.

Happily we have gun laws in Canada -- though they are hard to enforce, given the drift of weapons from the south -- so that trigger happy kendalls are not loose on the streets taking what they believe the law to be into their own hands. The police -- remember the police? -- seem to have caught the guy, who appears to be a sad lunatic.

OK, I'm home now and perhaps I can type a bit better!

It was an eventfilled couple of weeks, lots of music, lots of love, lots of counting our blessings especially around Rick - and also lots of work. It was wonderful to meet/see again so many Mudcatters, Marion, Peter T, Banjo Bonnie, Michael K (and his beautiful new guitar) in addition to getting to spend time with my friends Mick, Jeri, Rick, Heather and new friends Paul and Bev. Who am I leaving out??? Thanks to Rick and Paul I had the chance to meet some great musicians also; jamming around the table or in the studio (I really enjoyed your Cowboy Song), Marion). It was a special couple of weeks, and these music people moments all had a powerful affect on the recording. Thanks to all.

I've got to tell one story. During the recording of the music there were some surpirsing moments of emotion for me. Some of these songs have a deep connection with me, and their stories have moved me - but I've beens singing them all for some time and am comfortable doing so. The emotion for me is just below the surface, but I got through the recordings pretty well.

But while were playing one of the tracks for Mick and Jeri - a song about a Scottish nurse during the US Civil War - I looked up at Big Mick who listening with tears in eyes and I just about lost it myself. After the track was over Mick explained. He'd never heard the song before, but instantly identified with his own battle/wound experience, and being nursed by some couragous nurses - and the song moved him. This project had some surprises for me.

This project will probably be quiet for a time, while I sort out the business about publication and release. It was a real treat working with Paul and I am most grateful for his skill and best efforts. Thanks very much to Rick for putting us together and for your help thoughout.

Peter, it might have actually been "The Banks of the Mobile," the song referred to above. ("Now many have fallen, and long since their fall, can recall every name...") Maybe. (And maybe I've got the lyric right!)

The one that got me in the studio was "Sarah's Mountain Thyme." I think it was the combination of hearing it and glancing at Jed while he was listening. Tender, beautiful...and it doesn't matter that I can guess the songs may touch me that way, it's still a bit of a surprise when they do.

Yep, it was The Banks of the Mobile.

Many have fallen and long since their fall
We'll recall every name and embrace one and all

Sarah's Mountain Time is an extraordinary work of wordsmithing. It is one of the songs that Jed sings that will simply touch you in the very depths of your soul. It is a tribute to a young woman that worked for Jed and was his friend. She died of Cancer. Jed took The Wild Mountain Thyme and wrote new lyrics that keep much of the original lyrics but speak to his love of his dear friend. Jed was moved to tears himself in the listening to it in the studio. This is another tribute to Bev and Paul Mills, as one feels so completely comfortable in their home/studio that they are free to let the experience wash over them. This song is one of the most moving tributes I have heard. My brother Jed opens up the secret places in his heart and lets us peek in. I like what I see.

Mick

I once said to someone "I wonder why some of us cry" and she said "because we're strong enough to." There's something special about sharing tears and that depth of feeling when listening to a song or anything else. I thought I was the only one with wet eyes until I looked up. There's also something very special about a person who has the strength and willingness to give gifts like that song and others as close to the heart. There's also something special about people who create an environment where that level of trust is possible. I probably would have cried if I'd heard the song in a train station. I just wouldn't have looked up.

Well said, all. But to segue onto a humourous track . . .

Jed and Big Mick look like a pair of toughs (in the right light), and here they are: just a pair of teddy bears!

Visualize it like this: there'd be three of them - Rick Fielding would be the road show version of Don Corleone, and right behind him in silent menace would be our other 2 heroes as the Don's assistants, Guido and Fluffy!

Really looking forward to the new CD, Jed. Take care, youse guys.

Peter T. since you brought it up, I'd like to say, I am hardly trigger happy. My life's career was as a law man, and, I did not say I would shoot the bastard to stop him from escaping. You may passively resist these creeps and hope the cops get him, but, I will rely on my own training and experience. Or, maybe you think because I retired from law enforcement that I am no longer qualified? Or maybe you just don't know who you are calling trigger happy?

Given that you were the one who invoked "those who hate guns", kendall, it was a reasonable interpretation of your remarks that you were proposing to dispose of him in such a way that "they would not be looking for the bastard". I am sorry to hear that you are a retired lawman; I assumed you were a musician, which is far more conducive to serving and protecting the public good and promoting civil peace. My mistake, I apologise.

The Ballad of Guido and Fluffy
(Sorry)

Recording a CD my friend
You thought was gonna be a breeze
But you've got some friends who want it NOW
And your breath, it smells of cheap Chinese
(was gonna write ("And Peter T. has smooshed up knees," but it just didn't work)
You weren't the only picker there
But your being there was fate
You said goodbye and home did fly
Now we'll just have to wait

Guido was a player boys
Guitar of wood and strings of steel
He wore the thing outside his pants
Otherwise the frets were hard to feel (so to speak)
Oh Guido met his match you know
In the city of Tor-on-to-oe
Nobody heard his muttered words
But that's the way it goes.

And all the folkies up there say
They'd want him back there any day
They only let him get away
'Cause kidnapping's a crime

Now Fluffy he can't sing the blues
But that's not the sort of song he'd choose
The music Guido played up there
Will someday travel everywhere
Guido got his licks all in
And Fluffy split for Michigan
We'll wait and we'll hear more again
When Guido wants to share

And all the folkies up there say
They'd want him back there any day
They only let him get away
'Cause kidnapping's a crime

Now poets will the story tell
How Fluffy stayed in a cheap hotel
And Guido's back in Texas, friends
But that's not the way the story ends
We'd like the CD now, it's true
'Cause Guido's done all he's gonna do
But now comes the administrative poo
Upon which release depends

And all the folkies up there say
They'd want him back there any day
They only let him get away
'Cause kidnapping's a crime

Yes a few old farts with guitars say
They'd want him back there any day
They only let him get away
'Cause kidnapping's a crime

Just for the record, I enjoy being a musician much more than I ever enjoyed being a lawman! By the way, one cardinal rule, Never shoot at a fleeing felon. I was saying, I would hold him for the police. Unless he attacked me, or someone else.

In any case, I can't wait for this cd to to be released. I have Jeds other one, and, I wish I could play guitar like he does. I'm really looking forward to this one.

Sounds like Lane, Patterson, etc. need to watch out, there is a new gang in town. The Enforcers: Guido, Fluffy, Kendall "The Musician", and Jeri "The Fiddler".

("What is that eerie sound, Batman?" "The Fiddler is in town, there must be a gang war or CD protection going on. We better get to the Commissioner." Another part of town, a radio station playing "Today's Hits for Today's Whatever". Entry of the Enforcers:
The Fiddler: "Hey, Nice radio station you got here, pity if anything was to happen to it."
DJ: "We have a set list, you can't intimidate me."
Guido: "Do you know what is on the list?"
DJ: "Er, no, they just give it to me in the morning, and I have to play it. Corporate, you know."
Fluffy:"You know, if you had a union --"
The Fiddler: "Cut it, Fluffy."
Fluffy: "But Boss, I was just --"
The Fiddler: "I know, I know. Anyway, stooge, we want you should play this new CD by Jed Marum. Good tunes, makes you laugh, makes you cry, you leave humming the big tunes. Otherwise, you aren't going to have to worry about your children's college fund."
DJ:"Er, why?"
The Fiddler: "Because we are going to start by burning down the college of your choice, and then go to work on stuffing as many of these CDs as we can find down your childrens' throats, in a non-violent way, of course."
DJ: "I can't do that. It is against the rules."
The Fiddler: "Rules? Rules? Don't make me call upon "The Musician" here, he knows rules that would make your head spin, and I mean that literally, he is big on vertebrae, never ceases to amaze me."
DJ: "You mean, gulp, that that guy is "The Musician"?"
The Fiddler: "Yeah, I know, he frightens us too, that is why we move in a group, so are you going to play nice, the nice music, or --"
DJ: "OKOKOKOKOK. But you will have to answer to AOL-Time Warner for this."
The Fiddler: "Make it so."
yours, Peter T.

After a month of listening obsessively to "Streets of Fall River" (and hitting rewind every time Look Ahead Tommy, Grace, or Loch Moy ended), a few questions have arisen for Jed (or whatever we're calling him now):

1. It's almost September - how's the new CD coming along?

2. Do you know what "I loved so much that I could see his blood upon the rose" means? I vaguely remember a poem with the line "I see his (Christ's) blood upon the rose" but not well enough to see the connection if there is one.

3. On the liner notes you wrote something like "Please share this music with anyone you think would enjoy it." Is that an invitation to bootleg it?

Cheers, Marion
