Subject: RE: BS: What God looks like... From: annamill Date: 16 Jul 02 - 08:42 AM Joke?? You mean he's not?? Mick, you lied to me! WARNING: THREAD CREEP (who?) Mick, I met a wonderful Irish folk singer in Montauk, LI Saturday night and I bought a CD and told him all about Mudcat and you. I don't have his full name right now. His first name was Victor though. Excellent! He didn't know all the words to "There were roses", but he knew a couple of other Tommy Sands songs. I miss you guys! Love, Annamill |
Subject: RE: BS: What God looks like... From: Little Hawk Date: 16 Jul 02 - 08:15 AM LOL! Now that's what I call a true "in joke"...and from a GUEST too... This could start a whole tradition of jokes that make sense ONLY on the Mudcat! How exclusive. GUEST Art in Heaven should get an honorary membership for kicking this idea off, I think. - LH |
Subject: RE: BS: What God looks like... From: GUEST,Art in Heaven Date: 15 Jul 02 - 09:22 PM A Mudcatter dies and goes to heaven. When he gets to the Pearly Gates, St. Peter asks him what he did on Earth. "I was a folksinger," the newly arrived says to St. Peter. "Hey, that's great," replies St. Peter, "we have a folk club here in heaven and there's a jam session going on right now." So St. Peter takes him over to the heavenly folk club. Woody Guthrie is there, Ewan MacColl, Mississippi John Hurt, Leadbelly, Stan Rogers, Gamble Rogers, every great dead folksinger you can think of. But the Mudcatter is astonished to see a familiar figure trying to grab all the attention. "Hey, that's Big Mick," he says to St. Peter, "I didn't even know he was dead." "No," answered St. Peter, "that's God. He just thinks he's Big Mick." |

Subject: RE: BS: What God looks like... From: clareR Date: 15 Jul 02 - 12:26 PM god looks like the perfection of a flower, the awsome complexity of the human body,a rainbow, a crystal clear stream cascading into a rockpool on a mountainside on a sunny day, a diamond, a streak of lightening, greek feta salad, music, laughter, and all the things that come together on this earth to make such magic possible |
Subject: RE: BS: What God looks like... From: Little Hawk Date: 15 Jul 02 - 11:59 AM That's an idea that has the staying power of William Shatne's toupee, Carol. It rocks! :-) - LH |
Subject: RE: BS: What God looks like... From: CarolC Date: 15 Jul 02 - 10:36 AM Wow, LH. I like the way you think! So now I'm thinking maybe a little coffee table book full of pictures. I could call it something like, "Orillia: The McGill Retrospective". What do you think? |
Subject: RE: BS: What God looks like... From: Little Hawk Date: 15 Jul 02 - 10:04 AM Yeah, I get your drift. But even if God really existed, I'm sure people would in any case remain oblivious to the real nature of God, while busily inventing various "God"s in their own various images. That is also a distinct possibility. I do agree that a God such as Jehovah, for example, was essentially created in the image of the Jewish patriarchs who ran that society. And so it goes... People also create political parties, corporations, and other silly things according to their own inner images of themselves...but political parties are still a real phenomenon in our lives. Pity about that! - LH |
Subject: RE: BS: What God looks like... From: IvanB Date: 15 Jul 02 - 09:53 AM LH, yes, and a female Jerry Lewis at that. But, actually, I should have used the term "mankind" instead of man. It was just my smart-assed way of saying that we've manufactured our own god(s) in response to questions we can't answer otherwise. |
Subject: RE: BS: What God looks like... From: Little Hawk Date: 15 Jul 02 - 09:38 AM Ivan... You meant that Jerry Lewis's idea of God looks like...Jerry Lewis? That's disgusting! - LH |
Subject: RE: BS: What God looks like... From: Ian Darby Date: 14 Jul 02 - 10:30 PM Sorry, but the 'God' in the Teletubbies is William Haig. George Burns got the part right as far as I'm concerned, and I loved 'Dogma'. Ages ago I read about some graffiti that said "God is Black". Underneath, in different handwriting, were the words "Yes she is".

Subject: RE: BS: What God looks like... From: IvanB Date: 14 Jul 02 - 09:54 PM It's my opinion that man made her (God) in his own image. |
Subject: RE: BS: What God looks like... From: Nigel Parsons Date: 14 Jul 02 - 09:25 PM Obviously God looked like an earlier rung on the evolutionary ladder.
Why?..
"God made man in his own image". But when the time came for Christ's birth, "Christ was born in fashion as a man". (Not wishing to 'yank someones chain' I am a regular churchgoer!) Nigel |
Subject: RE: BS: What God looks like... From: Little Hawk Date: 14 Jul 02 - 09:13 PM Lady Penelope has hit this one right on the nose...I concur. Carol - Do you have any idea what that picture is now worth???? The famous man in the McGill is gone! You have preserved a timeless bit of Orillia history. Maybe try selling 8 x 10 glossies of it on Ebay... You could soon be on easy street. - LH |

Subject: RE: BS: What God looks like... From: Little Hawk Date: 12 Jul 02 - 11:21 PM Ouch! There was one Star Trek movie where Shatner encountered a very Old Testament style deity...but I believe it turned out to be a fraud...or a being with grand delusions. I don't recall the details. It was a pretty crummy movie, that one. My cousin used to complain that people thought Bob Dylan was "God"...it annoyed her tremendously. She annoyed me. I think Dylan may have written "Like A Rolling Stone" with someone like her in mind. - LH |
