I will be in Auora IL suburb of Chicago Thursday thru Sunday July 18 - 21. I would like some information on getting to a session to play at. Any information would be helpfull.

Thanks Gary®

The Abbey Pub on Elston and Grace, Sunday evening, round 9ish, is apparently, hard as it is to believe, the only one. Get off the Blue Line at Addison, and walk five minutes to the north. I played a bit there a couple of weeks ago, but didn't know many tunes. There's a red hot fiddler by the name of John Daly plays there, and an English lass called Bernie who picks a fine banjo.

Call Tommy Nevin's Pub in Evanston, Illinois. They have (or had) a Sunday afternoon session, so you could play there and then hit the Abbey). There might be a session at Chief O'Neill's as well (again, so I've heard), but I'm not sure. It's been a couple years since I've had time to go to one, so my information might be out of date.

Thanks for the info. Unfortunatly I'll have to miss it as I must leave Sunday evening. Will certainly miss the oppertunity to play with the fiddle and banjo.

I took a guitar class recently where the teacher helpfully passed out a list of Chicago (mostly north side) sessions. There's one listed for Thursday night at a place called McNamara's, 4328 W. Irving Park. I've never been, but the number is 773-725-1800, so you could call and ask. Fridays and Saturdays, there's live music to be had, but not much in the way of sessions, it seems. Check metromix.com, or chicagoreader.com under "folk and country" for listings. Good luck!

Although you won't get an Irish session, try the Gallery Cabaret's Open Mic on Thursdays (start about 9pm), 2020 N. Oakely (Blue Line "L" to Western): they have an open mic but you may find lots of folk willing to jam with you. The Mythic Figs/Pot Luck are pretty good for that ... A rare artistic crowd at the Gallery, just worth a visit before they are all gentrified out of town ...
You could also go to the Hilton (the one on Michigan and 8th Street), since they have a regular Irish Band that plays and they'll know other locales for gigs
Cheers,
Brian
