Chris posted the following to the Flatpick-L list when he meant to send it to his UK mailing list.

I thought it might get to a few more UK people if I cross-posted it here.

Chris is very irritating to listen to if you play guitar, because he raises the bar beyond the reach of normal people, but I keep going back anyway. I suspect Maire has the same effect on Irish harpers.

I saw Chris and Maire at the North Texas Irish festival this year and enjoyed them immensely. After hearing them for a few moments, I realized there has never been a human being who touched a guitar that played better then Chris Newman. He is simply supberb!

I concur. I had the priviledge of hearing Chris and Beppe Gambetta doing a workshop together at Old Songs....absolutely amazing. It was the first time they'd ever played together too, with the exception of maybe 10 minutes at Old Songs 3 years ago.

Chris has been one of my guitar heroes ever since I first heard him playing along with Fred Wedlock. His O'Carolan CD with the divine harper I always refer to as "Mary the Unpronounceable" is a constant in the CD sixpack in my car - an instant cure for road rage!

Try it - for whatever reason, but try it.

And the last time he played Herga, a couple of years ago, Chris (who came from round here) said he still has a Herga membership card dating from 196? His brother used to play at the club too.

Its easy to pronounce NiCathasaigh Knee-caw-ha-see is pretty close. I agree about Chris (& Maire's) playing.

Ó Cathasaigh (usually Anglicised as O'Casey or Casey) is the masculine version, Ní Chathasaigh is the feminine. Pronounce :'Oh Cohosig' and 'Nee Hohosig'.
