OK the joke is

What is the 667?

Answer; the neighbor of the beast

Mark Grahan has written a song with this title, and I'm dying to hear the lyrics. Anyone have them?

FAVORITE BUMBER STICKER; In case of rapture, can I have your car?

Robin

Not exactly. 667 would be the people across the street. 664 and 668 would be the neighbours...

Man, there is a LOT of stuff out there about the neighbor but I didn't find any Grahan connection.

I don't know about you, but I consider the folks across the street to be my neighbors. Not my "next door neighbors" but still neighbors.

That's what's wrong with the world today! A sense of disconnect from those around us.

From a nitpicker's point of view, Wincing Devil, you are a real killjoy. (*Grin)

LH,

I think neighbors can live acros the street, but hey, who wants to be that close to those kind of neighbors anyway?

"What's that red fire and smoke next door, daddy?"

Nobody has heard this song? Any Mark Graham fans out there?

Robin

Sorcha, it is spelled Graham, sorry about that!

Guest, I had found the CD before, but really just wanted to hear the lyrics first.

In England, 667 and 666 might be across the street, but they could equally well be next door. Is "odds and evens on different sides of the street" an invariable rule in America?

greg - It is an invariable rule in Canada, yes...and I think in the States as well.

I am shocked to hear that you mix your odds and evens in England! Appalled! I would have thought that a country with such a long and rich heritage of social organisation would have scrupulously avoided such dereliction of duty when it comes to street numbering systems. How does the post office in England handle this egregious situation?

"The rolling Englih drunkard made the rolling Engish road".You have a strange image of England, Little Hawk.We don't organise anything here, we just just follow old customs. Doing things sensibly in an organised fashion is a habit we are quite happy to leave to foreigners, ex-colonials and people of that nature.

It's true, we don't organise.

My street only has even numbers (the odd side having been knocked down years ago) but half way down is a converted building with numbers 1-6 inclusive.I live there.

It's hard enough to describe, but telling a delivery driver that you live at a number one half way down a street where the numbers start at two..words have failed me before now.

LH - not mixing odds and evens comes from the Puritan influence - one of the real reasons they left England was they felt indiscriminant mixing of numbers might lead to fractions.

.The street I lived in a couple of years ago was Y-shaped.All three branches of the Y were called West Street.

I live at no 13, there's no no. 17 (I found number 1 after living here 4 years) and everyone else across the other side of the road has a plot number (presumably?)
