Found this on another chat site. Not sure whether this is simply "nice" or the person needs to get out more?

Allan

FRIENDS WITHOUT FACES.

"We sit and we type and we stare at our screens
We all have to wonder, what this possibly means.
We chat with each other, we share all our woes,
Small groups we do form and gang up on our foes.
We wait for somebody to type out our name,
We want recognition and offer the same.
We give kisses and hugs and sometimes we flirt,
In rooms we chat deeply and reveal why we hurt.
We form friendships but why is a thing we don't know,
Though most of them flounder some flourish and grow.
Why is it that on a screen, we can all be so bold,
Telling our secrets that have never been told?
Why is it we share those deep thoughts in our mind
With those we can't see, as though we were blind?
The answer is simple, it's as clear as a bell.
We all have our problems and need someone to tell.
We can't tell "real" people, but tell someone we must
So we turn to the 'puter, and those we can trust,
Even though it is crazy, the truth still remains,
They are friends without faces and with odd little names. "

I'm thinking more the latter than the former...

Well p'raps they do need to get out more, but it's fairly accurate, wouldn't you say?

there are germs of truth there, but the rhythming couplets verse form doesn't lend itself to profound contemplation....

I guess I don't think it needed a poem...but who am I to judge?

"We can't tell "real" people"

How sad and pathetic...

If I ever come to value cyberspace more than meat space, then I'll do myself the favour of unplugging for good...

Hhhmmmm ! - Story, Warrented True !!

And there I was wandering down Stoney Stratford last Febuary on the Fridatnight of the gathering when I was accosted by a small party. " You look like a Folkie, where is the Mudcat gathering ?"

Mmmm! Beard, Scruffy, beergut - do we all look like that - or at least the Male Folkies ??

Gareth

I'm pretty sure that "Meat Space" is another term, coined by William Gibson...

Credit where due eh...

I suppose I understand the premise; but I agree with Bill that it is a simple concept, poorly stated. Besides, there are many of us who have found ways to put an end to the anonymity for the most part.
