Can someone do a lookup for me in the book: "The Encyclopedia of Folk, Country, and Western Music," St. Martin's Press, 1983? I'm wanting to know what it says about Lonzo and Oscar.

Thanks.

My copy is the first edition published in 1969. (Revised edition is still availabe, I believe.) There's an entry (pp. 177-178) on them. The first paragraph is:

LONZO AND OSCAR: Vocal and instrumental comedy duo, revolving around the Sullivan brothers (1945-'67), both born Edmonton Kentucky, John (Lonzo), born July 7, 1917, died Nashville, Tennessee, June 5, 1967; Rollin (Oscar), born January 19, 1919.

And info on their career and recordings continues. What do you want to know? The whole entry?

The original book 'The Encyclopedia of Folk, Country and Western Music' (1st edition: 1969, 2nd edition: 1983) has recently been split into two parts:
COUNTRY MUSIC: THE ENCYCLOPEDIA 1997
and
FOLK & BLUES: THE ENCYCLOPEDIA 2001 [which has NO entry on Lonzo and Oscar]

I was just wanting to know if it listed singles (78's) for their earlier period.

This is the info on their recordings from the first edition (p. 178):

The team recorded on many labels over years, including RCA; Decca; Stardy; their own company, Nugget; and, in 1967, Columbia. Their single records included such songs as "If Texas Knew What Arkansas," "I'll Go Chasin' Wimmin," "My Dreams Turned Into a Nightmare," "Ole Buttermilk Sky," "My Adobe Hacienda," "Julie," "Hearts Are Lonely," and "Movin' On." Their repertoire included many original cmpositions, such as "You Blacked My Blue Eyes Too Often," "Last Old Dollar," "There's a Hole in the Bottom of the Sea," "I Don't Forgive No More," "Take Them Cold Feet Out of My Back," "Cornbread, Lasses and Sassafras Tea," and "She's the Best I Ever Saw." Their LPs included "Country Comedy Time," Decca Records; and, on Stardy, "Lonzo and Oscar" ('61) and "Country Music Time" ('63).
