Gee - it works for me. So ... hmmmm ... how do I solve this one without you ringing me up and singing it to you? (Telephone I understand. Paltalk is beyond me!)

I hesitate to complicate things further by an imperfect solutions but would the following help? (It's difficult for me to think of it 'afresh' - it's so familiar to me that I'm not sure I can attack the problem from your angle!)

I'll also see if I can find a book with the words written immediately under the music. A scan would then be possible ...

Originally known as Tôn y Melinydd (Tune of...) first published in "Gems of Welsh Melody 1862". "Mae gennyf dy^ gysurus" was written by a famous Welsh poet, Talhaiarn - after which it was called Cân y Melinydd. The verse "Mae gen i ebol melyn" is traditional, and some of the others were written by another poet, Rhuddenfab*. (Notes taken from Huw Williams' book "Canu'r Pobl".)
*It is understood that Rhuddenfab did a separate (full) version of this song with a nonsense chorus, and that will be added to the DT when available.

With four, fine, silver horse shoes

This translation was done in July 2002 with a lot of help and urging from the Mudcat community. It started life as a request for a translation of a song which was to be sung in Welsh, but where the singer wanted to at least know the meaning. It then became a request for a singable translation.

With the previous thread getting up to 50+ messages, I feel we can extend it once more before it totally runs out of steam.
The previous thread was at This point it gave, not only our working of the song, but also, a source for the song in book form (In Welsh) The next posting (if no-one beats me to it) will contain both the English and Welsh versions of this song.
