Is there anyone out there in the UK who plays traditional music from Finland? Our band's agent is looking for a UK based group who would like to play at a wedding. Please contact me if you can help.

Thanks

Sarah

Not quite Finnish, but from the Western part of Sweden close to the Norwegian border?

www.jens.engelbrecht.com/duo - are sometimes over in the UK (depending when your wedding is..)

Thanks for replying Hille. Don't know where the wedding is probably London as most gigs the agent gets us are that area, no idea when either. The main requirement is that the band should have a kantele player. Any other ideas???

I'm going to redo this thread without the BS bit as suggested. I don't know how you can merge threads so apologies if all you cats think the forum is being inundated with requests for Finnish bands!!!

Sarah

Since you're not living near Shepherdstown, WV (Cultural Hub of the Western Hemisphere, Naval of the Universe, etc.) I would be reluctant to recommend OUR local Finnish group, Nordicka. But I do have sympathy for those who toil in the cultural backwaters (UK, France, Germany, etc.) and thus I recommend the singular course of action left...

Contact the local Finnish Embassy. They will have had cultural affairs which would require a Finnish musical group or two, and I'm sure they would pass on your request or act as some form of intermediary to their musical community. We had the same sort of tiff when Ladysmith Black Mombasso (sp?) played here a couple of years ago, and the South African Embassy was a great help. Good Luck!

StF, here's the Embassy of Finland in London. Also maybe try checking with The Finnish Institute in London. Good luck. :)

Are you still looking? A Finnish colleague of mine mentioned that she had some friends who were playing Finnish stuff - there was a possibility that they could have come to Bishop's Castle but it didn't happen. I can check it out if you're interested.
