Subject: St. Brendan's Fair Isle From: GUEST,Laura Silsbee Date: 23 Jul 02 - 11:03 AM Looking for the sheet music for Mick Moloney's "St. Brendan's Fair Isle"--thanks in advance. |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: St. Brendan's Fair Isle From: MMario Date: 23 Jul 02 - 11:15 AM I believe this is still on the "missing tune" list. So if anyone could post the tune it would be appreciated. |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: St. Brendan's Fair Isle From: Midchuck Date: 23 Jul 02 - 01:55 PM I have the CD with the song on it by Maloney - put how do you "post" a tune? Type out the letter names of the notes in sequence? That wouldn't be any good without the time values.... Peter Incidentally, the song, as I understand it, was composed by "Humper McBean" - supposedly an alias for Jimmy Driftwood. P. |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: St. Brendan's Fair Isle From: MMario Date: 23 Jul 02 - 02:08 PM peter - if you cantranscribe from audio (a talent I truly wish I possessed - but I can't tell an 'A' from an 'E' without crib notes and assistance) there is a nice system of text music notation called 'ABC' - for which there is a primer listed in the MudCat FAQ thread. There are more details, but yes, you type out the names of the notes in sequence - having established a base duration. if for example your "basic" note is an eighth and you want to express a quarter note (for value A) - then it would be A2. a dotted quarter would be A3, half note A4 - whole note A8; etc. It is a REALLY useful means of transmitting tune information via e-mail or text forums - and takes less space then even the miditxt program!!! (you know - those red numbers you see in some posts)
