Subject: Maurice Denham - RIP From: Fiolar Date: 26 Jul 02 - 09:26 AM Another great actor and entertainer haw joined the ranks of the just. Maurice Denham born in 1909 and whose career in show business spanned almost 60 years has died. His first professional appearance was in 1934 in the play "The Marquise" in Hull. During the 1940s he appeared in the radio show "ITMA" (It's That Man Again) with Tommy Handley in which he played the character Mrs Lola Tickle and later appeared in the show "Much Binding in the Marsh." His extraordinary talent with voices was displayed to perfection in the 1955 animation "Animal Farm" in which he voiced all the characters. His first film appearance was in 1947 in "The Man Within" and he went to star in such films as "The Blue Lagoon" (1949); "The Purple Plain" (1954); "Sink the Bismarck!" (1960) and "The Day of the Jackal" (1973) among many others. His television appearances included "The Lotus Eaters" (1972/73) and "The Fall of Eagles" (1974) in which he played Kaiser Wilhelm I. He was awarded the OBE in 1992. He is survived by his two sons and a daughter. |
