An AltaVista search on "Chieftains 5" will give you 90 hits, and some of them would be glad to sell you the CD.

Not sure about CD but you can certainly find it on vinyl try amazon under popular music! ... PS can anyone clear up my predicament? I am listing lots of mint celtic vinyl albums on amazon but I can't find out which are original and which are re-press's for instance I have most of the Chieftains UK albums on early CBS and Claddagh labels but most list the Island label which is 1st press? Thanks vinylsue

I have stopped using Amazon, as for some reason my current settings prevent me from seeing pictures if the items they have for sale. It doesn't affect anything else that I know of, and anyway I find Amazon to be expensive. So it can stay like that!

The first ten Chieftains albums were originally released by Claddagh.

Chieftains 5 on CD is (was?) available on Shanachie 79025, 1989.

Their complete discography is HERE on their website.

It looks as though, if you want to become a member, there is an mp3 download available of the entire Chieftains 5 HERE. There are several copies available, too, at Amazon and Alibris. Just google "Chieftains 5 cd" and you'll get a lot of hits.

I have Chieftains 5 in front of me and it's definitely issued by Island records. There was a run of them from Island at about that time.

I've got it on CD issued by Claddagh (some of the others were issued or re-issued by RCA). #10 is my favorite and one of the hardest to find. #6 (Bonaparte's Retreat) is the only one I haven't gotten on CD-a little too pricey for one I'm not in love with.

Wow, I thought - the Chieftains did a cover version of the Beatles LP That really should be worth looking out for...!

Thanks for refreshing the thread with that information, Dalton22Adrian. It reminds me that I intended - but must have forgotten - to respond when the original question was asked nine years ago.

Just the other day I consigned all my Claddagh vinyl to the bin, having recently rescued them from unsitable storage and mastered the process for converting vinyl to digital code. It seemed a shame. The LPs were in "reasonable" nick but the sleeves had been rendered unsellable by our cat.

However, sentiment aside, the gain in space and sound quality can't be questioned. The various clicks and scratches that had accumulated over the years have been successfully removed courtesy of two simple programs, Audacity (opensource) and Goldwave (which can be freely sampled enough times to last a lifetime). Should have done it years ago, but I kept shying away from the technology.
