There's also a fine version, sung by Tim Laycock (who wrote the tune) and The New Scorpion Band on their Folk Songs & Tunes of the British Isles CD New Scorpion Band website

Thing is, Noreen, if the original enquirer had just looked it up in the DT nobody would have been made aware of the existence of the old thread or song. When someone starts an enquiry thread, instead of searching, we all get the chance to think about it.Granted, if everyone did that the system would clog up, but I always enjoy the enquiries that do get started.

Yes, greg, but further discussion could be added to the original thread, to keep it all together and more easily found in the future.

Lovely song :0)

You're right, Noreen, but there is a contrary view. Which is that these enquiries often generate a nice little chat, interesting in itself and sometimes throwing up new information not available in previous threads or DT. And these chats wouldn't happen if everyone went straight for a Search.

£$%^&!

If you search for Row On in the very useful Digitrad and Forum Search box at the top of the page, you will find these lyrics already posted more than several times and debated at length.

(I'm not criticising a new Guest who doesn't yet know how to use this place, but some people should know better...)

Peter, here you go..

ROW ON
Words from ship's log, Three Brothers 1846
Set to music by Tim Laycock

Clouds are upon the summer sky
There's thunder in the wind
Pull on, pull on and homeward hie
Nor give one look behind

Chorus
Row on, row on, another day
May shine with brighter light
Ply, ply the oars and pull away
There's dawn beyond the night

Bear where thou goest the words of love
Say all that words can say
Changeless affections, strength to prove
But speed upon the way

Like yonder river would I glide
To where my heart would be
My barque should soon outsail the tide
That hurries to the sea

But yet a star shines constant still
Through yonder cloudy sky
And hope as bright my bosom fills
From faith that cannot die

Row on, row on, God speed the way
Thou must not linger here
Storms hang about the closing day
Tomorrow may be clear
