HI...apparently this is the first line of a song which a group sang in the early seventies... it goes "yes sir I ' am a stranger here I just rode(?) in your town.... no sir I don't expect to hang around...." later something in the song goes like " sheer survival on my mind "or so its about somebody being stopped by the police on the road or something and later in the song also Birmingham comes up.

Can anyone help with name of titel andd name of group and possibly lyrics? Doing this for a friend and it would just blow her mind if I could find it...so PLEASE help me !! bye Dagmar

There's a Sonny Terry blues with that title and your opening line, but nothing else you describe. Your song may have derived from it:

'I'm A Stranger Here'

As I remember the song, the lyrics recounted an encounter between a man passing through a southern town and the police on his way to Birmingham:

Full title is "Then I'll Be Movin' On." Recorded by Mother Earth on their 1969 album Make A Joyful Noise. Songwriting accreditation to Powell St. John is correct.

Powell St. John's own Bandcamp page says the title is "I'll Be Movin' On." So does his website.
