Gm      D9       Em       A      D
Sunday morning, very bright,
D9
I read your book by colored light
      Em                   A          D
That came in through the pretty window picture.

D                               Dmaj7
I visited some houses where they said that you were living,
          D7                              G
And they talked a lot about you and they spoke about your giving
    Gm                         D9
They passed a basket with some envelopes
                           Em
I just had time to write a note
            A             D               Am7    D (repeat once)
And all it said was 'I believe in you.'

D                               Dmaj7
Passing conversations where they mentioned your existence
       D7                        G
And the fact that you had been replaced by your assistants.
       Gm                      D9
The discussion was theology and when they smiled and turned to me
Em                A             D             Am7   D (repeat once)
All that I could say was 'I believe in you.'

(same chords as 2nd verse)
I visited your house again on Christmas or Thanksgiving

And a balded man said you were dead but the house would go on living

He recited poetry and when he saw me stand to leave

He shook his head and said I'd never find you

   Gm
My mother used to dress me up
    D9
And while my dad was sleeping
         Em                A             D
We would walk down to your house without speaking.

Note: you may prefer replacing the D9 chords with D or even another variation of D; the D9 keeps the mood a little darker, which fits the song pretty well.

My goodness, all, the break is NOT C D, it is Am7 D (preferably on the 5th fret). When it doubt play with the record and these simple mistakes can be avoided.

The last post is correct
D-Dm7-D7-G-Gm-D-Em7-Am7-D

The "Sunday Morinig..." comes in on the Gm

The break is C-D

I play it also
Great song!

Chords for the verses, using key of C:

C                                                          Cmaj7
I visited some houses where they said that you were living
                  C7                                                    F
And they spoke a lot about you and they talked about your giving
Fm                                                             cC                                                      Dm
They passed a basket with some envelopes, I just had time to write a note
                  G                        C
And all it said was, "I believe in you."

The first part (Sunday morning very bright) and the last part (My mother used to) use the chords for the last half of each verse (Fm, C, Dm, G, C).

Noel Paul Stookey wrote and sings a beautiful, powerful Christian song called "The Love Of It All." I believe he has the lyrics at his website. (Check Google for "Noel Paul Stookey. If I can find my link, I'll post it.)

"The Wedding Song" was donated to the Public Domain Foundation, and it can be found in "Rise Up Singing."

I sang this in church over 30 years ago when i was active in the youth group and we took turns leading worship services--it felt good to be bringing up the subject of hypocrisy right there--also did "Take your place on the great mandala, as it moves thru your circle of time (?)"

Hi - I found the lyrics at http://www.peterpaulandmary.com, but no MIDI. I don't know who songwriters Gold and Mason are; but Stookey, of course, is Noel Paul Stookey. Noel's wife is a graduate of Harvard Divinity School and an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ.

Which one, pray tell? (Assuming that he wrote more than one)

The one which comes to mind is "Wedding Song", which is popular for weddings (naturally).

It goes:
"He is now to be among you,
At the calling of your hearts;
Rest assured this Troubador is acting on His part..."
(?)
I've got it in a book somewhere, but no doubt someone in here can steer you right to it on the Web.

Looking for the chords and words to this 1960's song. I believe it starts out in Dm.

Sunday morning very bright
I read your book by colored light
That shone across some pretty window pictures.
I visited some places where they said that you were living
And they talked a lot about you and they spoke about your giving.
They passed a basket with some envelopes
I just had time to write a note
And all it said was, "I believe in you."

I'm sure these words are not all right and I've long since forgot the chords. It's a great song if some one remembers it thanks. Ken
