I've searched for a long time for more information on Harvey June Van and the original words to this song. I must have listened to it a hundred times on the jukebox down at the old malt shop. There doesn't seem to be much new data available.
I remember the first two lines of the second verse as:

harvie june van recorded this on king records in 1958,it's called the lights are growing dim.

My research indicates that Ms Van lives in Nashville..I desperately need to get acopy of her original. Ih her and that song when I was about 17....I am now 72...I had a small c&w group at that time..Her song and voice has never left my heart or mind,,I believe she was about 15 at the time...

Sure would love to see oor talk to her and get a copy of that sad but beautiful song...

The University of North Carolina apparently has a copy in their library. Sometimes libraries will make a copy for you. click here.

There was an LP issued in the 1960s, called "Songs of the Hills" by various artists, that contained THE LIGHTS ARE GROWING DIM sung by Harvie June Van. Bowling Green State University, in Bowling Green, Ohio, has a copy. click here.

My father was married to Harvie June ... He later divorced her and married my mother ... I created a wikipedia page for her recently:

Harvie June Van (March 2, 1940) is country music singer. She was born in Monterey, Tennessee. She first broke into the music scene in 1954 when she was only 13 by Syd Nathan of King Records. She came from a family of musicians, and her father had a local radio show in Ohio.

Personal LifeShe married her manager Bob Ferguson who would later become a RCA Record Producer and Executive. They would adopt two Native American children. Harvie would later divorce him. Today she lives in the Nashville area.

Well, it took me awhile, but I found that Tulli is in Lebanon and Harvie June is in Mt. Juliet.
