Subject: HELP: Recordings of basic fiddle tunes From: GUEST,Jerry Date: 07 Aug 02 - 12:09 PM Dear Mudcatters, My sweetie has taken up the fiddle. I still love her, however, and want to buy her a recording or two of basic fiddle tunes one might encounter in a slow jam. Any recommendations? Thanks, Jerry |
Subject: RE: HELP: Recordings of basic fiddle tunes From: Sorcha Date: 07 Aug 02 - 12:12 PM Well, you won't find any recorded very slow, that is for sure! Not sure what I'd reccomend, but the old guys are pretty good. Tommy Jarrell, etc. Also Craig Duncan and Mark O'Connor--get Marks' older ones, the new ones are stuff he wrote. |
Subject: RE: HELP: Recordings of basic fiddle tunes From: GUEST,Jerry Date: 07 Aug 02 - 12:34 PM Thanks, Sorcha. I should clarify that I don't expect to find recordings of tunes played slowly, or that I necessarily need the tunes to be played on a fiddle. I'm hoping I can find a CD with tunes like Haste to the Wedding, She-Beg She-More, Arkansas Traveller, Turkey in the Straw, Mari's Wedding, Off to California, etc.,etc. My darlin' finds it easier to learn a tune when she's heard it, since she's learning to read music right now, too. Subject: RE: HELP: Recordings of basic fiddle tunes From: selby Date: 07 Aug 02 - 01:35 PM Folkworks in the UK do 2 books/CD's where session tunes are written in the books obviously and the CD's have the tunes played slowly individualy and then at session speed in sets. A good way of learning plus eventually you can hold your own in a session Keith |

Subject: RE: HELP: Recordings of basic fiddle tunes From: wilco Date: 07 Aug 02 - 02:41 PM Something that might really help are the CDs from Homespun Tapes (PO Box 340 Woodstock, NY 12498 USA). They have several products that have the tunes recorded at 1/2 speed, with the lead able to be dubbed out, and then they are played full speed. I like Steve Kaufman's stuff. 1-800-33-TAPES. |
