Subject: Lyr Add: KEYS (Doug Lewis) From: Charley Noble Date: 07 Aug 02 - 05:25 PM Here's a song commemorating the perversity of inanimate objects, in this case the car keys. Doug Lewis, a brilliant singer-songwriter from Maine, claims this song is not autobiographical. I bet this song resonates with a few other Mudcatters! You'll have to work out your own tune unless you can reconstruct it from my chords (copy and repaste into Word/Times/12): KEYS (Words & Music by Doug Lewis © 1990 ASCAP) G-----------------Em-G-----------Em Where does the time go? Well, I don't know. C---------------C7 How did it get so late? G---------Em—G----Em Toss those dishes in the sink, C And I'll drink this on the way. D----------------------D7 Grab my coat, and that's all she wrote. Em--------C----Bm---------C--Bm Now let me see – where'd I put my keys? Ah, come on. You're putting me on. This can't be happenin' again. The same old story; they're all waiting for me, And they'll wonder where I've been. The worst thing about it, is they can't start without me, And I know they won't believe – that I could not find my keys! Let's see. I came in there and I sat down here. You know you gotta trace your steps. Last time they were missing, they were in the ignition; Has anyone looked there yet? Well, don't just stand there, give me a hand. Hey, nobody leaves – until I've got my keys. Check the blue suit, did they fall in the soup? You never know where they'll land. I swear they got legs, and they must know Exactly where I am. Can't take all night to find them; All right, Everybody freeze – now where are my keys? Get out of that chair; I haven't looked there; Find some other place to sit; Pardon me, can I borrow your keys, Maybe I can make them fit. I ain't pissed, but I'll tell you, mis-ter, If you still want to breath – you better help me find my keys! When I'm through with them, you can stick 'em Anywhere you please – just help me find my keys. (Spoken)......Found them... Where? Never mind. Cheerily, Charley Noble
