Subject: RE: BS: Punch the Horse Part 99 From: The DeanMeister Date: 09 Aug 02 - 05:33 AM Just posted this on old thread, but thought I would copy onto this one in case it gets missed. Ref singers/musician discussion. Have not been on for a couple of days. I don't have anything to contribute on the subject that has not been eloquently expressed by my peers already. I have my feet firmly in both camps. I love to sing, and I thoroughly enjoy accompanying the tune-meisters also. I was aware of the unusual balance of musicians v singers at Nellies on Sunday, and in my capacity as m/c tried my best to accommodate all to everyones satisfaction. I hope I managed to acheive that. If that wasn't a mixed session, then I don't know what is. We sang. We played. We had bear. We had fun. That's what it is all about for me. My sincere thanks to all who attended. May there be many more enjoyable days like that. Personally, I was extremely pleased to see so many musicians for a change. It has been said often of my session (by musicians) that they don't want to attend due to the high number of singers. It has also been said (by audience/pub regulars) that it can be a bit too finger-in-yer-ear depressing. This is an image that I wish to eradicate. There is room for everyone. I hope you all come back in September. Once again, many thanks. Peter Dean. |
Subject: RE: BS: Punch the Horse Part 99 From: smallpiper Date: 09 Aug 02 - 05:59 AM That was a bit good deanie and you are right it was a fair mixture from a tune makers point of view. |
Subject: RE: BS: Punch the Horse Part 99 From: smallpiper Date: 09 Aug 02 - 08:24 AM Oakley the naked bicucling bit could be a bit dangerous for us lardy boys and very distressing to the general public besides you never know quite where that smoke is coming from. |

Subject: RE: BS: Punch the Horse Part 99 From: smallpiper Date: 10 Aug 02 - 05:31 PM Thats wundafull.unfortunately a trip to jacksons would involve a car journey and as I've just polished off a bottle of "Old Git" red wine (i highly recommend it to any connorsewers of red wine) that is out of the question I'll just have to sit here and wish I'd bought two bottles hic |

Subject: RE: BS: Punch the Horse Part 99 From: Rt Revd Sir jOhn from Hull Date: 10 Aug 02 - 05:40 PM Tis a shame there's no bear delivery service in Ull/Ezzle, eh John! |
Subject: RE: BS: Punch the Horse Part 99 From: Linda Kelly Date: 11 Aug 02 - 05:40 AM There you are John-an opening for a new job -sod the pizzas- start your own bear and banananans delviery service9. Linda XX |
Subject: RE: BS: Punch the Horse Part 99 From: smallpiper Date: 11 Aug 02 - 05:48 AM That would involve little drinking time as the demand for provision would be so great.... hey you could do it for a munf then on the vast amount of money you make you could hire a teetotaller to drive you around (but not a monkey cos they'd eat your bannnnnannnnaasss) |
Subject: RE: BS: Punch the Horse Part 99 From: Oaklet Date: 11 Aug 02 - 07:24 AM jOhn, I could lend you a heifer to do your rounds. An ox-cart bear and bannannans delivery 9service would make a fortune in the Spanish quarter. Its a wonder no one has thought of it before. |
Subject: RE: BS: Punch the Horse Part 99 From: Linda Kelly Date: 11 Aug 02 - 01:49 PM And of course you could have a special musical jingle to alert the goodly folk of Hull of your imminent arrival upon said oxen or a special cry in the manner of the rag and bone man - I am of course worried about the effect of cobbled streets on the feet of these animals -is it cruel? |
Subject: RE: BS: Punch the Horse Part 99 From: specky Date: 12 Aug 02 - 05:24 PM hi all i feel a song coming on " oh what a night" |

Subject: RE: BS: Punch the Horse Part 99 From: GUEST,Penelope Rutledge Date: 12 Aug 02 - 10:38 PM All right, I have had just about enough of this unutterable poppycock. You people have violated all common bounds of decency and good taste in this ridiculous series of "Punch the Horse" threads, and it is becoming so tiresome that I feel I must register a strong, an absolutely vehement protest! Desist at once. This is supposed to be a folk and blues forum, an arena of serious, intelligent discussion of traditional music forms...not a public venue on which to vent puerile humour and hatred toward animals. You people should be ashamed of yourselves! "Punch the Horse" indeed! I refuse to believe that Hull or any city in the English speaking world would put up with your offensive jokes for very long. We certainly do not tolerate it in Twillingsgate. Kindly take your silliness somewhere else. Ms. Penelope Rutledge |
