Heard this on the radio and loved it. I missed the artist and name, but it sounded a bit like John Lee Hooker. The words I can remember were something about being unwanted by a loved and do you feel like (a bit of?) dust on the shelf? (Just remember?) you can always love yourself Not sure about the exactness of those lines. It was a great song!

Thanks,

kat

Kat, that's "You can love yourself" from Keb Mo's CD "Just Like You". I also love that tune, and it's in my repetoire. The chorus goes "But if nobody loves you, and you're feeling like dust on an empty shelf, just remember, you can love yourself". Keb Mo's a great bluesman and a wonderful songwriter. I've seen him several times in concert and he gets the crowd a-rockin'!

Subject: Lyr Add: YOU CAN LOVE YOURSELF (Keb' Mo')
From: Jim Dixon

Lyrics copied from http://unnerstall_orthwein.tripod.com/song_lyrics.htm

YOU CAN LOVE YOURSELF
(Kevin Moore [=Keb' Mo'])

My baby she wrote me a letter. She didn't call me on the phone.
Five little words was all she wrote: "See you later. I'm gone."
She had no explanation about why she had to go.
Well, I can't take a joke, but I can take a hint. She don't love me no mo’.

CHORUS: But if nobody loves you, and you feel like dust on an empty shelf,
Just remember: You can love yourself.

My mother says she loves me, but, you know, she could be jiving too.
Everybody's always criticizing everything that I do.
I work 9 to 5, do the best I can, I try to please the boss.
I bought a big old house and a brand new car and then he laid me off.

CHORUS

Every time I meet a lady I want to try to get to know,
Either I'm too small or she's too tall. She's rich and I'm po’.
So I called my old friend Hazel. I asked her out for a little date.
She said, "I'm married now and I got three little kids. Boy, you’re just a little too late."

CHORUS

[Performed by Keb' Mo' on "Just Like You," OKeh/550/Epic CD #67316, 1996.]
